After reviewing a lot of information about coal, and realizing that most of use only think of coal as being used in producing electricity. While this is not true, there are several by products of coal we use everyday and don't even realize it such as medicines, food preservatives and fire proofing.

Coal Tar is a by product of coal and is used in the following products: Paving, Roofing, Isulation, Disinfectant, Varnish, Wood Perservatives, Insecticides, Storage Batteries, Fungicides, Moth Balls and Paint Thiners.

Coke is another by product of coal and is used in the following products: Fuel, Soda Water, Acetylene, Briquets, Sugar Substitute, T.N.T. Explosive, Electrical Insulation.

Coal Gas is another by product of coal and is used in the following products: Street Lighting, Sulfuric Acid, Paint Pigments.

Other products that use by products from coal are Fertilizers, Smelling Salts, Baking Power, Rubber Cement, Ammonia, Fire Proofing, Food Preservatives, Medicines, Perfumes

Fly Ash is a by product of Coal Combustion after it is burnt in the power plants. Approximatley 50 million tons of Fly Ash is used every year in several application such as Cement and Concrete Products, Grouting and Wallboards, Road Base and Subbase, Snow and Ice Control, Waste Stabilization and much more.
