On Wednesday May 23rd a native of our area has been given the honor of leading thousands of Motorcyclist and Vietnam Veterans through our area as part of the "Run For The Wall" which started on May 15th in Ontario California and ends on Memorial Day Sunday at an event that last year drew 500,00 motorcyclist to the US Capitol in Washington DC.

His name is Fred Reynolds and he is from Russell, Kentucky.

Fred will be "leading the pack" as the first man of the "Missing Man Formation". To honor those who are MIA or POW from from all US wars. He will take the lead on Day 8 Leg 3 from Mount Sterling, Kentucky to Hurricane, West Virginia along the Purple Heart Highway (Interstate 64 Eastbound) for 114 miles.

Fred is a Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy 1967 and was stationed at Naval Air Station Miramar, in California attached to Fighter Squadron VFP-63 on board the USS Intrepid CVS-11.

He is 62 years old and retired from AK Steel and has 2 daughters and 1 Granddaughter.(Laura, Nikki and Caitlin)

This is the second time Fred has been part of the Run For The Wall. He rode along with other riders last year from Mt. Sterling to Hurricane. This year he will be starting in Croydon Indiana on Tuesday May 22, 2006 and taking the lead in Mt. Sterling. 114 miles of leading perhaps tens of thousands of riders.

This ride is an annual event and makes stops along the way at War Memorials, VA Hospitals to build a groundswell of support for those KIA MIA POW and Injured in US Wars.

Last year there was very little to no support of the riders that came through here while in other places thousands of supporters lined the highways and over passes as a testament of solidarity with the riders.

I would love to see something done to help bring awareness and support to this event. What can We do?

Confusedalute:
This is what they call Rolling Thunder on Memorial day. His Daughters are coaches of a minor leage softball team. The teams name is "Rolling Thunder".

Fred was my coach in little league. He is a Great person. Couldn't find a better person to lead the pack.
