PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- With the Mid-South Conference Regular-Season Championship already wrapped up heading into the game, the third-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team didn't relax as it topped No. 24 Cumberlands 93-79 to make it a sweet Senior Day.

Five Bears reached double figures led by Jayvian Delacruz with 22 points. Darrion Leslie chipped in with 17, Chase Parsley tallied 14, Michael Chambers had 13 and Jordan Perry rounded out the group with 12.

UPIKE outshot Cumberlands 50-43 percent from the field which was a product of baskets in transition as the Patriots turned the ball over 15 times. UPIKE needed a strong defensive effort as it was outrebounded 39-33 and hit one less free throw.

Chance Morton poured in 21 points for Cumberlands, including a 5-of-6 showing from the stripe.

UPIKE (27-3, 11-3 MSC) reached 27 wins for just the seventh time in program history with the win. Cumberlands (21-8, 8-6 MSC) tried to make it a game in the final seven minutes as it went on a quick 4-0 burst to get within six at 74-68.

But that small run seemed to poke the Bear as two minutes later UPIKE was up by 14 at 84-70. The Patriots never got closer than 11 the rest of the way. Facing seeing the lead dwindle down to six, it was Parsley that started UPIKE's late push with a corner 3 that seemed to deflate the Patriots.

Cumberlands never led in the game, but UPIKE sure did.

At one point in the first half it was a 23-point game at 40-17 on a dunk by Perry. That slam punctuated a 14-2 run for the Bears, but didn't stop the Patriots from scoring 11 of the last 13 points in the half to make it 44-32 at the break.

Most of the second half was an even affair with UPIKE fluctuating between a 12 to nine point lead for the first 13 minutes. Morton and Malik Colvin-Seldon makng two straight buckets to get within six made things interesting briefly, but Parsley's outside stroke and solid defense by the Bears helped them pull away for the 14-point win.
