LEBANON, Tenn. – Campbellsville controlled the battle on the boards and outrebounded Cumberland University, 41-21, in the Tigers 87-77 victory on the road.

The Tigers' (18-5, 3-4 Mid-South Conference) plus-20 rebounding margin was its largest in conference play this season, while their 19 offensive rebounds set a new season high for the team.

Tim Coleman finished with a game-high 21 points, while Andrew Smith was just behind with 20 points and a rebound shy of a double-double. Smith's nine boards was a game-high, while Duke Robinson notched a career-high six assists.

Cumberland got off to the fast start scoring the first seven points of the night and forcing Campbellsville to take an early timeout. Out of the timeout, the Tigers battled back and tied the game at 11 after a three-pointer from Coleman capped off a 7-0 run.

Both teams traded punches in the first half as the score was tied three different times and its changed sides five times. Cumberland led for 13 minutes in the half, compared to just under four minutes for Campbellsville.

Coleman also gave the Tigers their first lead of the night after he stole a pass from Juandrico Walker and took it all the way to the hoop to put Campbellsville on top, 29-28. The Tigers lost the lead on the next possession, but came right back to take a one-point edge and they never trailed the rest of the first half.

Campbellsville had 16 offense rebounds in the first half including five on one possession that put the Tigers ahead 33-30 forcing the Phoenix into a timeout. The Tigers took a 40-36 lead into the half – which was their largest of the half.

In the first 20 minutes of action, Campbellsville controlled the glass with a 23-7 edge and a 16-1 advantage on the offense boards.

After a quick bucket from Smith to start the second half, Cumberland came back with the next eight points to regain a two-point edge early in the second half. The Tigers were not able to regain the lead until the 14:43 mark in the second half with a 6-0 run. Campbellsville stretched its lead to as many as seven points after Coleman connected on another three-pointer to cap off a 13-2 run in a span of 2:38.

With the Tigers leading by 12 points with 8:21 left in the second half, four-straight points from the Phoenix brought the game back within single digits. After a Campbellsville timeout, Adam Stanford hit a long two to regain the double-digit lead for the Tigers and stop the Cumberland run.

Campbellsville played with lead for just 3:41 in the first half, but turned the tide in the second half and led for 16:43 in the final 20 minutes of action.

Cumberland did not let the game get out of reach and pulled within six points just after the final media timeout with 5:48 left in regulation. The Phoenix looked to make one last run in the final three minutes of the game as they cut into their 13-point deficit – largest of the night – and made it a four-point ball game with 1:41 left in regulation. Cumberland used four-straight baskets, including a trio of three-pointers to pull with the four points.

However, Campbellsville kept the Phoenix at ease and Cumberland made just 6-for-18 field goals over the final 11 minutes of regulation, which was highlighted by a 4-for-6 stretch to end the game. Cumberland had an eight-minute stretch where it was just 3-for-13 from the floor.

Campbellsville won its third-straight games with the 87-77 victory on Saturday night.

The Tigers earned their first road win against Cumberland since Dec. 6, 2014 when Campbellsville grabbed a 73-59 victory in Lebanon.

For the first time all conference season, the Tigers finished with a field goal percentage of over 50 percent as they shot 50.7 percent from the floor. Cumberland shot the ball at 52.6 percent and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line, while going 9-for-18 from deep.

This marks the third-straight season the Tigers have followed a four-game losing streak with a three-game winning streak.

Campbellsville is back in action next Thursday at 8 p.m. ET against No. 5 Georgetown College on the road.
