UPDATE: Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has confirmed that one person has died in a shooting at Marshall County High School.

Bevin said that the suspected shooter is in custody. Multiple other people were also reportedly wounded.

Kentucky State Police are investigating.

"Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS...Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded...Much yet unknown...Please do not speculate or spread hearsay...Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us..." Bevin wrote on Twitter.


Benton Elementary School said all students and staff at the school are safe.

BENTON, Ky. (WZTV) - A school shooting has been reported by local media and on social media at Marshall County High School in Kentucky.

According to the Marshall County Tribune-Courier, there have been several reports of shots fired at the school.

FOX 17 News spoke with Kentucky State Police who confirm there was "an incident" that is no longer active. The Marshall County Sheriff's Department said there are multiple reported injuries.

FOX 17 News spoke with a business across the street that confirmed there were multiple agencies outside of the high school.

On social media, multiple students have posted concerns stating there was a shooting.

(CNN)Another high school has turned into a scene of carnage, this time in western Kentucky.

Fourteen people were wounded, two of them fatally, after a shooter opened fire Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School, Gov. Matt Bevin said at a news conference. Another five people sustained other injuries.

A 15-year-old male student was arrested at the scene and will be charged with murder and attempted murder, Bevin said.

The slain victims were a boy and a girl, both 15 years old. The girl died at the scene and the boy died at a hospital, State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders said. The conditions of the injured students were not immediately known.

Sanders said the suspect, armed with a handgun, walked into the school at 8:57 a.m. ET and started shooting.
