Lady Tigers take care of business once again. This was at North.
Burchell (and Jerry Combs) vs. Mahan is a mismatch. It just is. I think North could have Harlan Co. talent and not beat Clay. By the way Walter, did the young Asher girl tear a knee up at some point? She obviously was not her usual self mobility wise.
It’s my understanding she has a minor knee issue. I totally agree on the coaching mismatch. It’s ironic that North could have hired Combs but hired Mahan instead!
I don’t know if ironic would be my exact word choice😱. I’m a big fan of Jerry’s, think he would have been a great hire here. And I hope it is just minor for the Asher girl, but it sure looked like a little more Friday night, really slowed her down.

You would hope that the administration would correct their obvious error in hiring "the defensive specialist" Mahan soon.
i think you guys are being too hard on Mahan. He seems to have done a great job. he's winning 20 a year. and while he hasn't won a region, the 13th had been loaded recently with D1 players and top teams.

If it was just about coaching, Clay wouldn't have lost a home game on Saturday to a team that was ranked behind them by most .

If he was that good don't you think his own high school would have hired him when they had an opening. 20 wins against what schools look at records of teams he has beaten while at North.
They did and I even tried to convince him to do it. He wouldn’t even talk to me about it... said he loved North Laurel and his kids and didn’t want to rebuild. I hadn’t talked to him much before then but I knew some parents who had a kid who played for him and loved him and she never even got to play much. I have looked at the records and it looks good only two teams that looked better the last few years are Harlan county and Harlan. This is what I don’t miss about coaching. I’m glad the internet wasn’t around most of my coaching career. The only team North Laurel seems to have problems with is clay. Clay has had NL number and I was not at the North Laurel v Clay game to know about being out coached but I will say I have seen Mahan coach a lot and think he is one the best around that I have seen. I’m not a big fan of North Laurels team this year, no post and no pg so anytime is slows down they are going to struggle. I see another possible two losses this week for North Laurel, but thats high school basketball for you.

I always respect your opinions and I understand where you are coming from, but I am on a different side in this case. I’m just not a fan for reasons I won’t elaborate on. Not saying he’s not a good guy, I honestly don’t know him personally at all, I’m speaking from some coaching things I have seen myself and been told about by people I trust.
I respect yours as well, I would have loved to had him here though. Different opinions though make for a more interesting world.
Congrats to Clay County

I think that if you have a good guy, who treats the team well and is a solid coach, you need to be appreciative and keep him. This isn't the college or the pros. Winning isn't the only thing.

BUT he does win 10-4 this year, 22-12 last year regional semis, 23-10 year prior regional semis, 19-11 year before that regional semis. Then look at the period of time before he arrived, North was an also ran....

Coaching styles don't have to be liked by all, but the results say he is doing a good job.
I'm not saying anything about the coach but North Laurel is as talented as anyone in the 13th region and has been since the school opened.
Surprised by this loss. I feel North is the better team by far and is host to tons of talent. However, it seems North always falls short when they play Clay.
