LOS ANGELES – The University of Cincinnati Bearcats recorded their most impressive win of the season Saturday with a convincing 77-63 victory over UCLA at Pauley Pavilion.

UC trailed early, then used an 18-0 run to build a 36-23 halftime lead. The Bearcats increased their lead to 19 early in the second half before the Bruins cut it to 10. The Bearcats rebuilt the lead again, but UCLA again cut it to 10 with 1:39 left before UC put the game way.

No. 25 UC (9-2) was led by Kyle Washington, who scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Jacob Evans III scored 16. Gary Clark had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jarron Cumberland scored 10. UCLA (7-3) was led by Aaron Holiday, who scored 17points. The Bruins made 8 of 18 from 3-point range in the second half and committed only three turnovers after committing 18 in the first half.

The Bearcats trailed, 21-18, after a Prince Ali 3-pointer for UCLA with 6:59 left in the first half. That would be the last field goal of the half for the Bruins.

UC went on an 18-0 run take a 36-21 lead on two Cane Broome free throws with 1:23 left. The only points over the last 6:59 for UCLA were two free throws by Alex Olesinski with 17.7 seconds left. The Bearcats finished the half on an 18-2 run and led at halftime, 36-23.

The Bruins were unable to handle UC's full-court defensive pressure. UCLA committed 15 turnovers in the first half that the Bearcats converted into 19 points. UC held the Bruins to 38.1 percent shooting in the half.

UC kept up the pressure early in the second half, making five of its first nine shots, despite missed layups by Clark and Evans, to take a 47-28 lead less than five minutes into the half. The Bruins did a better job of taking care of the ball in the second half and made 6 of their first 13 shots, but UC still held a 54-38 lead with 11:46 left.

The Bearcats missed their next seven shots while UCLA was heating up from long range. Washington stopped the UC scoring drought with a basket at the 8:21 mark and Cumberland made a three, but the Holland answered with a three for the Bruins and it was 59-46 with 6:41 to play. A 3-pointer by Jaylen Hands pulled UCLA within 10.

Evans then came up with one of the biggest baskets of the game for UC when he rebounded a missed shot by Washington and put it in. Cumberland then made a driving layup to put UC ahead, 63-49, with 4:43 to go.
