I watched the 11th region semis yesterday. Great
win by Tates Creek. The Scott Co./Lex. Cath. game
illustrated a point: basketball has become, thanks to
the KHSAA and the Bluegrass Association of officials,
where "you gotta be strong with the ball" means that
you have to be able to withstand being shoved, smacked,
"bodied up," in order to be effective. I love basketball.
I hate the way it is being officiated these days. I go to
football games in the fall. If "good defense" means
using the hands and forearms to physically dominate
an offensive player, instead of using the feet to stay
in position, so be it. But, I wish the officials' organizations
would quit talking about "point of emphasis" stuff and
then never calling anything. If "only the strong survive"
is the idea, then Kentucky should go to class basketball.
I wish 2A would start the season with a tournament and
play the final 16 in Frankfort or something.
