WALESKA, Ga. – The second-ranked Reinhardt Eagles advanced to the 2017 NAIA Football Championship Series Semifinals after outlasting Mid-South Conference member Georgetown (Ky.), 17-10, Saturday afternoon inside Ken White Field at University Stadium.

The win pushes Reinhardt to 11-0 as the Eagles improve to 2-0 all-time in the quarterfinals (2016).

"Hard-fought victory today against a tough opponent in Georgetown," head coach James Miller said. "Defense played lights out all day – seven sacks and three interceptions; what a day, really proud of our defense. Offensively, it was tough sledding, but we made enough plays to find a way to win. At this point in the season every game is going to hard. You have to find ways to win and we did that today.

"Really proud of the kids as they showed a lot of fight today on both sides of the ball."

Reinhardt was able to overcome an early 10-7 deficit and hold Georgetown scoreless in the final three-plus quarters, as its top-ranked defense held the Tigers to only 198 total yards – more than 200 yards below the Georgetown's season average.

Yards and points were hard to come by as both teams struggled to gain any offensive momentum due to the defenses taking over the contest. The Eagles managed only 214 total yards after averaging 497.7 throughout the year as the nation's 10th-best offense in total yards per outing.

Dylan Wiggins gave his Eagles the lead at 7-3 after scrambling into the land of plenty from 13 yards out in the first quarter. The Tigers would bounce back and again respond with a short touchdown run from Daric Pugh to move back in front, 10-7, with less than a minute left in the opening period.

Montralius Mosely would weave his way into the end zone and score what would prove-to-be the game-winning touchdown (13-yarder) with 3:32 left in the first half.

Defensive stops, hard hits and penalties on both ends would bring the game to a standstill, as neither team could get anything going offensively until Nick Marquez nailed a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to go up by seven at 17-10.

Fast forward to the final opportunity to tie things for Georgetown, as quarterback Hayden Shelton – who played nearly the entire second half due to injury – was tackled short of the line to gain on 4th-down and 15 yards to go by Javier Dyer; sending the Eagles to the national semifinals next week.

Mosely was named Offensive Player of the Game for his go-ahead score and Jalen Holloman earned the nod for Defensive Player of the Game after seven total tackles and a crucial interception in the second half.

Trevor Carlton led the way with eight total tackles (one for-loss), while Wiggins passed for just 65 yards and two interceptions.

As a team, the Eagles racked up seven sacks in the win.

Southern Oregon, who will participate in the semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons, stands in the way of Reinhardt and its first trip to the NAIA Football National Championship.

Information about tickets and kickoff time will be announced.
