COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson football played its most complete game of the season in a 37-14 win over No. 9-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) today at Blue Raider Stadium.
With the win, Lindsey Wilson (9-0, 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division) sets a program record for consecutive wins with nine while earning at least a share of the divisional title with one game remaining in the regular season.
The Blue Raiders posted 433 yards of total offense while the Lindsey Wilson defense held the Tigers (7-1, 4-1) to 314 offensive yards. Georgetown entered the game surrendering just 295 yards per game -- seventh in the NAIA -- and averaging 414 yards per outing on offense.
Perhaps the most significant stat of the game came on two team's conversion of third down.
The Blue Raiders moved the chains 8-of-13 times on third down against a Tiger defense that had allowed their opponents to convert third-down opportunities just 26.4 percent (29-of-110) entering the game. Conversely, the Lindsey Wilson defense limited Georgetown to just 4-of-12 on third downs and did not allow a fourth-down conversion in the Tigers' three attempts.
Lindsey Wilson led at the half 16-0 in the top-10 battle.
The first-half shutout marks the fourth time this season the Lindsey Wilson defense did not allow a score in a half.
Blake Ingleton capped the Blue Raiders' 61-yard opening drive with an 18-yard run to give Lindsey Wilson a 6-0 lead. The touchdown was the first of two on the day for Ingleton who leads the team with 11 scores on the ground this season.
Dylan Beasley orchestrated a 12-play, 70-yard touchdown drive to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 13-0. Beasley connected with Mikey Davis -- who caught his third touchdown in the last two games and sixth of the season -- for 19 yards and the score.
Beasley ended the game 19-of-31 for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He added a season-high 40 rushing yards in the win.
Jared Dougherty concluded the first-half scoring with a 38-yard field goal -- matching his longest of the season -- to send the Blue Raiders into the locker room up 16-0.
The Blue Raiders held the potent Georgetown offense to just 81 total yards in the opening half and just five first downs.
Georgetown opened up the second half with its longest drive of the day, resulting in a touchdown. The Tigers marched 88 yards on nine plays, capped off with a trick play that resulted in wide receiver Bart Bell throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to Shon Lumpkin to trim the deficit to 16-7.
Lindsey Wilson answered back -- like it did on both Tiger scores -- with a seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive to reclaim the momentum. Ingleton plunged into the end zone from one-yard out to extend the lead to 23-7 midway through the third quarter.
Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 30-7 when Beasley found Jayven Jones out of the backfield for a 47-yard touchdown. Jones finished the game with 106 yards of total offense -- 59 rushing and 47 receiving -- and the one score.
Georgetown provided one final surge with 10:41 left in the game as Daric Pugh scored his 11th rushing touchdown of the season with a two-yard score. Pugh rushed for a game-high 82 yards on 13 carries.
But Lindsey Wilson all but clinched the game on its very next drive as Beasley hit Cam Wyche for a 20-yard touchdown and a 37-14 lead.
Wyche -- who now has six touchdown receptions this season -- benefitted from an outstanding block by Davis that helped him not only convert a 3rd-and-10, but also reach the end zone. Prior to the touchdown, Lindsey Wilson called its own unorthodox play to set up the score. Zak Mizell took a lateral and hurled a pass 47 yards to a streaking Wyche to set up the Blue Raiders in the red zone.
Lindsey Wilson concluded Saturday 4-for-4 in the red zone to improve its season total to 40-of-41 scores when reaching the opponent's 20-yard line.
Jay Gaudlock and Tyrone Stallard were both instrumental in helping the Blue Raider offense move the chains all day. The receiving duo combined for eight catches and 115 yards in the game.
Trent Mueller led the stingy Lindsey Wilson defense with 12 tackles. C.J. Dickerson anchored the Blue Raider defensive line with seven stops.
Starr Thompson led the Tiger defense with 12 tackles.
Lindsey Wilson hosts No. 21 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday, Nov. 11, in the regular-season finale. With a win, the Blue Raiders secure the outright divisional title.
