AMES, Iowa â In a battle of the Big 12's top two defenses it was No. 25 Iowa State's defense that forced three turnovers, including two in the end zone, to defeat No. 4 TCU, 14-7, Saturday afternoon at Jack Trice Stadium. With the win, Iowa State improves to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12, moving into a tie for first place in the Big 12. TCU falls to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
Iowa State also earns bowl eligibility in Matt Campbell's second season. The Cyclones will play in a bowl game for the first time since 2012.
With the Cyclones in front by seven and TCU taking the ball over at its own 44-yard line with 1:27 left, it was again Marcel Spears who played the hero, picking off Kenny Hill's pass with 1:16 remaining to seal the deal on ISU's second win over a top-5 team this season and just the third in school history.
Iowa State held a 14-0 lead at the end of the first half. Kempt completed 15-of-23 passes in the opening half and connected with Matthew Eaton and Hakeem Butler on passes of 17 and four yards.

The Cyclone defense proved again to be one of the top units in the nation, holding TCU to a season-low seven points and winning the turnover battle for the sixth time this season (all wins).
While Spears' interception, his second in as many games, gave the Cyclones the win, ISU also forced two turnovers in the red zone in the second half. Brian Peavy picked off a pass at the goal line in the third quarter and Willie Harvey forced a fumble on a 2nd and goal at the Cyclone three that was recovered by J.D. Waggoner with 6:11 left in the game.

Allen Lazard finished with six receptions for 106 yards for his 10th career 100-yard game. Kyle Kempt completed 21-of-35 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Kempt improves to 4-0 as a starter for the Cyclones.
The entire defensive unit was worth noting, with a Spears' interception sealing the win for the second week in a row. A week ago against Texas Tech, Spears hauled in an interception and returned it 61 yards for a touchdown.
Since halftime of the Oklahoma game (14 quarters) ISU has allowed a total of 27 points, seven on which came on a kickoff return and another six that came on a seven-yard scoring drive. The Cyclones have now held all five conference opponents under their scoring average.
Reggie Wilkerson led all Cyclones with 10 tackles, while Joel Lanning and Spears finished with nine tackles each.
