JACKSON, Miss. â Centre football won its fourth consecutive game Saturday in Mississippi, defeating Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps, 28-13, at Harper Davis Field.
The Colonels' victory is also the fourth in a row over the Majors, and pushes their record to 7-1 (5-1 SAA). Millsaps falls to 3-5 (2-4) with the loss.
Individually, junior Colin Burnam (Bowling Green, Ky.) ran for a career-best 204 yards on 30 carries (6.8), while senior Devin Hayes (Bowling Green, Ky.) tossed four touchdown passes to four different receivers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Centre's stout defense kept Millsaps scoreless on the hosts' first four drives, allowing the Colonel offense to warm up.
After a couple empty possessions, the Colonels got on the scoreboard when Hayes hit freshman Jordan Gunter (Louisville, Ky.) on a 23-yard touchdown pass after a four-play drive that started in Millsaps territory.
Centre scored on its next possession, as Hayes found classmate Austin Hayes () for an 18-yard score, the tight end's fourth of the season.
The Majors missed a 48-yard field goal attempt on their ensuing drive, but would finally break through for a touchdown on Bubba White's pass to Ty Durham the possession after to make it 14-7 at the half.
The two sides traded touchdowns in the third quarter, as Hayes tossed his third of the afternoon to junior Cody Estep (Pikeville, Ky.) and White found Kain Mitchell. Senior J.D. Dotson () blocked the Majors' PAT, however, leaving the score 21-13.
Despite an acrobatic interception from junior Tommy Kaczocha early in the period that halted one of their drives, the Majors still managed to threaten late in the fourth quarter.
Millsaps had 1st-and-10 from just 13 yards out of the endzone, but came up empty after a solid defensive effort from the Colonels on four consecutive plays. Sophomore David Schill totaled three tackles during the sequence.
The Colonels sealed the victory with a 10-play, 90-yard drive capped by Hayes' touchdown to Davis Kannapell (Louisville, Ky.). Perhaps the game-clinching play was Hayes' 53-yard connection with Mack Cox that took the ball from Centre's 22-yard line to Millsaps' 25.

Although he didn't cross the goalline, Burnam was stellar as the primary back with junior Trevor Carnell (Shepherdsville, Ky.) out due to injury. His 204 yards were the most since former Colonel Nolan Coulter totaled 223 against Washington last season.
Schill paced the Colonels in tackles for the second week in a row, finishing with nine total (eight solo) to go with two pass breakups.
Hayes had a season-low 13 completions, but his four TDs were the second-most this year behind last week's five-touchdown effort.
