AVE MARIA, Fla. — Campbellsville scored 52 unanswered points and held Ave Maria University scoreless until the 1:23 mark in the four quarter en route to picking up its sixth victory of the year, 52-7.

In the win, Campbellsville (6-0) held the Gyrenes to 178 total yards and only 19 rushing yards.

The victory also pushes CU to 6-0 for the first time since 1991.

On the flip side, the Tigers put up impressive offensive numbers with 454 total yards. Senior quarterback Hunter Brown played three and a half quarters for the second straight game in the rout and threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns.

In the decisive third quarter, Brown was 9-for-11, tossed 113 yards and picked up two TDs.

Two of the four touchdown receptions went to junior wide-out Keanu Young, as he hauled in eight catches and 97 yards. Jordan Duff and Cruise Coulter both caught touchdowns as well.

But it was the defense that picked up the slack today finishing +3 in the turnover margin. CU recovered three fumbles and BJ Pelt intercepted his sixth pass of the year – returning it 75 yards for a touchdown. All four turnovers by Ave Maria turned into Campbellsville points.

The offense for both teams struggled out of the gate with the first quarter seeing just one score and seven total punts.

With 5:47 left in the opening frame, the Tigers went 30 yards in five plays to pick the first score of the day. Brown hit Keanu Young for a six-yard pass to put Campbellsville head 7-0 with 3:39 left in the first quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, the Tigers had 74 yards of total offense, compared to nine yards from Gyrenes.

The Gyrenes had their fifth-straight three-and-out of the day and on the Tigers first drive of the second quarter they generated their longest drive of the game to that point. However, Campbellsville's nine-play 54-yard drive came up empty as Bradley Bates pushed a 35-yard field goal attempt wide.

On Ave Maria's next drive, it picked up its first, first down of the day and had two more first downs come via Tiger penalties on the drive. Campbellsville's defense put an end to the seven-play 35-yard drive after Darius Dornes forced his second fumble of the season and Chrishun Young pounced on the loose ball to give the Tiger offense the ball near midfield.

Campbellsville cashed in off the turnover with an eight-play 55-yard drive. Brown threw his second touchdown pass of the game as he hit Jordan Duff on a fade route from three yards out.

The Gyrene offense found its rhythm, thanks to a pair of Tiger penalties, and found themselves deep inside Campbellsville territory for the first time on the day. Brandon Butry came in for the 37-yard field goal try, put he missed just his second field attempt of the season.

With 2:29 left in the first half, Campbellsville marched down the field 80 yards in just over a minute to take a 21-0 lead over the Gyrenes. Wade Holtsclaw capped off the five-play drive with a three-yard rushing touchdown, which is his eighth rushing touchdown of the season.

Following five-straight three-and-outs for Ave Maria they strung together drives of seven, nine and eight plays to close out the first half. However, Campbellsville's defense stood strong and kept the Gyrenes off the board in the first half.

The Tigers outgained Ave Maria in the first half 241-65, while the Gyrenes only had eight first downs in the first half – all coming in the second quarter – with five coming off of Campbellsville penalties.

At the start of the second half, the Tigers took the opening drive 63 yards down the field and scored a touchdown on their third-straight drive. Brown and Young connected on a touchdown pass for the second time in the game from nine yards out to push Campbellsville lead to 35 points.

BJ Pelt halted the ensuing Ave Maria drive with his sixth interception of the season – which is tied for third in the program record book in a single season. Pelt returned the interception 75 yards to the end zone for the Tigers first defensive touchdown of the season. This is the first pick six for Campbellsville since Oct. 3, 2015 against Faulkner University and 28th in the program's 30-year history.

The Campbellsville offense continued to roll as Bates capped off a five-play 48-yard drive with a 20-yard field goal. The Tiger defense then corralled its third turnover of the day and the offense pushed the Campbellsville lead to 45-0 after Brown hit Coulter a 17-yard touchdown

Campbellsville had its string of six-straight scoring drives snapped with a three-and-out after Brown played just the first play of the series. However, the Tigers forced a fumble on the punt and Anthony Sams, Jr. recovered for Campbellsville's fourth turnover of the game.

Two plays later Holtsclaw scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from 19 yards out to give the Tigers a 52-0 lead after three quarters of play.

The Tigers kept the shutout in tack with Garland Webb blocking a 42-yard field goal try with less than five-minutes to play in regulation. However, after Campbellsville's first turnover of the game at their own 14-yard line the Gyrenes spoiled the shutout with a 16-yard touchdown two plays later.

Campbellsville let the clock run out on its final drive as the Tigers earned a 52-7 victory over Ave Maria.

Next up for Campbellsville is a date against No. 9 Georgetown College at 2:01 FST (Finley Standard Time) on Homecoming next Saturday, Oct. 28, at Finley Stadium.
