COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson football team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 44-41 on Saturday afternoon to remain a perfect 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Mid-South Conference play on the season.
Jalon Kemp set a program recorded with 20 tackles – 13 solo and seven assisted -- in the game as he also managed one sack.


Dylan Beasley completed 16-of-29 passes for 288 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Blake Ingleton rushed for a team-high 117 yards on 15 attempts. It marks the second time this season Ingleton has rushed for over 100 yards in a game. Cam Wyche finished the game with a team-high 97 receiving yards and a score as Charles Gaines recorded four receptions for 63 yards.

In a game that featured 1,012 yards and 151 plays combined between the two teams, the Blue Raiders were able to do enough to hang on late for the victory.
T.J. James returned the opening kickoff 44 yards to the Cumberland 34-yard line. Two plays later, Beasley completed a pass over the middle to Tyrone Stallard, who was able to outrun his defender the rest of the way for the score. The Blue Raiders attempted a two-point conversion but failed to convert.
Lindsey Wilson's next offensive possession was a 13-play drive that resulted in an Ingleton rushing touchdown. Ingleton was able to score on a two-yard carry with 7:14 left in the first quarter.

Cumberland then answered with a score of their own with 3:28 left in the first quarter. Dezmon Huntley found Kimlee North for a 38-yard pass touchdown.
On the next Blue Raider possession, Beasley and the Lindsey Wilson offense were able to move the ball 63 yards in four plays for a score. Beasley connected with Wyche for a 43-yard touchdown. At the end of the quarter Lindsey Wilson's lead was 20-7.

In the second quarter, Beasley threw for two more scores. The first came via Mikey Davis on an eight-yard reception after stretching for the pylon that increased the Blue Raider lead to 27-7 with 9:07 left in the second quarter. The next LWC touchdown came when Beasley found Hunter Lovell for an 11-yard strike with just 28 seconds remaining in the first half.
At the half, Lindsey Wilson held a 34-14 lead over Cumberland.

To start the second half, the Blue Raider defense forced the Phoenix into a three and out. On the ensuing Lindsey Wilson possession, LWC put together a nine-play drive that stalled out at the Cumberland 14-yard line. Jared Dougherty connected on a 31-yard field goal attempt increasing the lead to 37-14 with 10:46 left in the quarter.

Cumberland cut into the LWC lead on a 10-play drive with just 4:28 left in the third quarter when North took a handoff five yards for the score.
On the next Blue Raider possession, Ingleton took a handoff up the middle and jetted past Cumberland defenders on his way to a 45-yard touchdown. At the end of three the Lindsey Wilson lead was 44-21.

Cumberland fought hard in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game with just three minutes left. The Patriots scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter after failing to convert on a two-point conversion.
The Blue Raiders held a 44-41 lead when they took possession with just three minutes left in the game. Lindsey Wilson's offense did what was necessary to kill the clock, including a third-down conversion through the air from Beasley to Jay Gaudlock, moving the chains twice on the final drive before kneeling out the clock.

The Blue Raider defense had three players record double-digit tackles in the game. Kemp had 20 as Trent Mueller recorded 11 and Joe Lewis had 10. Tony Brackins recorded an interception as Kemp also forced a fumble after a crushing hit on the Cumberland quarterback.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on the road next Saturday against Bethel at 1:30 p.m. CT.
