CINCINNATI, Ohio – Campbellsville scored 48-striaght points to earn its first 5-0 start since 1991 after beating Cincinnati Christian University at Willard Stargel Stadium, 48-7, on Saturday afternoon.

Hunter Brown threw for 242 yards and completed 20-of-25 passes in just over two quarters of work. Brown also threw for four touchdown passes, including a pair to Keanu Young who finished with a game-high 67 receiving yards.

The Tigers (5-0, 3-0 Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division) had a balanced effort on offense with 264 rushing yards and 254 passing yards. Wade Holtsclaw led all rushers with 92 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Justin Manning led the way on defense once again with 10 tackles and a forced fumble, while Darius Moore also forced a fumble and had seven tackles in the game.

The Eagles (0-7, 0-3 MSC Bluegrass) and Tigers traded interceptions to start the game as BJ Pelt picked off his fifth pass of the season and Brown had his pass toward the goal line tipped and intercepted in the end zone for a Cincinnati Christian touchback. After Campbellsville forced turnover-on-downs at their own 20-yard line, the Tigers marched 80 yards down the field in 13 plays for the first score of the game.

Brown plunged in from one-yard out to cap off the drive with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter.

Campbellsville got its offense rolling with a touchdown on its next possession. Chantz Goodman rushed ran in from 13 yards to finish off a three-play, 28-yard drive that took just 23 seconds off the clock.

The Tiger defense forced its second turnover of the game as Manning forced an Eagle fumble where Marcus McCants corralled the loose ball and gave Campbellsville possession at the Cincinnati Christian 35-yard line following a penalty on the Eagles. The Tigers then scored a touchdown on its third-straight drive after Brown found Cruise Coulter for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

Coulter's touchdown reception is his first since the season opener last season against University of the Cumberlands and second in his career.

After Cincinnati Christian gained 91 yards on its first two drives, the Campbellsville defense gave up just 31 yards over its next three drives.

On offense, the Tigers cashed in the short field scoring four-straight touchdowns. Campbellsville had three-consecutive drives that started inside the Cincinnati Christian 35-yard line.

Jordan Brown caught his first career touchdown pass after Hunter Brown found him for 13-yard score and pushed the Tiger lead to 28 points.

Campbellsville's offense continued clicking on all cylinders with Hunter Brown hitting Young for a 26-yard touchdown pass, which was Campbellsville longest play in the first half. After scoring touchdowns on five of its six first half possessions – last five of the half – the Tigers took a 35-0 lead over the Eagles at the half.

Coming out of the half, Hunter Brown and Young connected for the the second time for Campbellsville's sixth-straight touchdown just 1:53 into the third quarter.

Cincinnati Christian's defense picked up their first stop since its interception at the 9:05 mark in the first quarter. Jeremy Hinds came in at quarterback and the Tigers had their drive stall out inside the red zone. Campbellsville came away with no points on since its first drive of the game after Bradley Bates hit the upright on a 35-yard field goal attempt.

After being forced to punt on its ensuing drive, the Eagle defense picked off its second pass of the game and returned the ball to the Campbellsville 19-yard line. This marked the first time since the first quarter Cincinnati Christian got into Tiger territory.

Campbellsville's defense came up with another stop as it pushed the Eagles back six yards and forced a turnover-on-downs.

The Tiger offense lost its rhythm after Hunter Brown left the game as it was held scoreless on three-straight drives and gained just nine yards combined on those drives, while turning the ball over twice.

Wade Holtsclaw got the Campbellsville offense back on track with a 63-yard rush – the longest play from scrimmage in the game – and he scored from three yards out on the next play to put Campbellsville on top, 48-0. The Tigers missed just their second extra point of the season after Trey Binder missed the attempt.

Cincinnati Christian ended the shutout with 9:43 left in the fourth quarter. The Eagles forced the Tigers fourth of the game and on the next play, Nicholas Eilers hit Zach Pickett for a 30-yard touchdown pass.

This was the first score Cincinnati Christian had against Campbellsville in its first two meetings and snapped a 110:17 shutout streak for the the Tigers against the Eagles. Over those two meetings, Campbellsville has outscored the Eagles, 97-7.

Neither team added to score as Campbellsville picked up a 48-7 victory, while outgaining Cincinnati Christian, 518-207.

The Tigers are off to their best start since the 1991, when the Tigers won their first eight games. The 1991 season was the best start in program history after Campbellsville won its first eight games that season. This marks just the third time that the Tigers have started the season at 5-0 after hitting that mark in the 1990 and 1991 seasons.

Campbellsville is back on the road next week as it makes its trip down to Florida to face Ave Maria University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. ET. This game was postponed from Sept. 16.
