If it was track then yes. In football NO!

He was the fastest kid in the entire state in 1989.
3 gold medals at state track meet.
Played football for Russell, had I think 2 carries in varsity... Both were touchdowns.

He was overlooked by the staff. Maybe the best all around athelete in Russell History.

Just my opinion though.

I played with him. I think he won four events at the state track meet. Might be the best athlete I have ever seen. Could run and jump like a deer. But not a football player. I saw him the other day. He has hardly changed a bit.

I'm not sure about Carty or Gibson but I know the other 3 didn't play for Ivan.

I didn't limit mine to those that played for coach McGlone.

in bill vallances stat book that he wrote it said that maynard was an all state nose guard. im just goin by that
who knows how great clark coulda been if he knew the game. he only played football two years his entire life.

I was right beside him most of the time. He was a Center on offense and Tackle on defense.
bizmark Wrote:who knows how great clark coulda been if he knew the game. he only played football two years his entire life.
He was very talented. Really got better as his senior year went on.
The Tooley Trot brings back memory as a center.
Look at the older teams who never threw the ball.
Backs- John Groves, Josh Gross, Kasey Clark, Robert Brown, Timmy Hammond
QB- Drew Ramey, Mike Couchot, Michael Gabbard, Tommy Brown ( as a 4th back)

so you dont put in muncy, a state champ and all state football player.
and bbb. for what you posted on another thread, i dont have ray clark in my all time back field. i put him as an all purpose player because his speed was almost NEVER matched and he was a threat to score any time he touched the football. not in my all time backfield but theres a reason he averaged over 10 yards per carry his senior year.
sorry left out Muncy.. an oversight on my part.....
Does anyone remember Shawn Wilson. Played one game first 3 carries 2 went for TD. they weren't short runs either. Transferred to Ironton started first week there.
Uh No.

I think his last name was White. He transferred from North Carolina or Virginia to live with relatives up here. A local rival complained and after a couple of games and the KHSAA in its infinite wisdom ( thats sarcasm by the way ) ruled him ineligible. He finished his senior season at Ironton as a back up RB and I think a starter in the secondary. He was good but never got a chance at Russell or Ironton because of the short period of time he was at each school.

4 1st places..... i think the only person in the state to ever do that in all individual events..... sorry for getting off subject
