OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Cavaliers of Walsh University spoiled homecoming weekend for the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team, defeating the Panthers 56-29 on Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium in Owensboro, Ky. The G-MAC newcomers improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play while the Panthers fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC.

After Walsh scored a touchdown on their opening drive, it took Kentucky Wesleyan only one play to tally a score of their own. The offense perfectly executed a 64-yard reverse pass, with Derek Barnes connecting with Jared Beard down the sideline and into the end zone. Chris Logsdon converted the extra point to knot the game at seven less than five minutes in.

The Panther defense forced a three-and-out on Walsh's ensuing drive to get the Panthers the ball back just over two minutes later. Kentucky Wesleyan drove down the field and broke into the red zone with a 12-yard reception from Barnes. Mike McGee connected with Dylan Byrd for a 10-yard gain to make it first and goal at the three-yard line. David White punched it in with a one-yard run to give the Panthers a 13-7 lead that stuck until the end of the first quarter.

On the opening drive of the second quarter, Logsdon converted a 30-yard field goal to extend Kentucky Wesleyan's lead to 16-7 but the Cavaliers responded with 28 points to take a commanding 35-16 lead to halftime.

Walsh controlled the third quarter with a drive lasting over 10 minutes resulting in a touchdown. The Panthers responded with a tally of their own after Ladarrius Dunn hauled in a 22-yard pass from McGee. Logsdon's extra point attempt was good to make to 42-23 Walsh with just over two minutes remaining in the third frame.

The Cavaliers tabbed a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 56-23. Kentucky Wesleyan utilized a hurry-up offense on their final drive to score the final touchdown of the game. McGee found Alex Gray in the end zone for a 16-yard pass. The Panthers two-point conversion was no good and the Cavaliers held on for the 56-29 victory.

Kentucky Wesleyan threw for 341-yards with McGee tabbing 277-yards on 23 completions and Barnes with 64-yards. Jared Beard led receivers with six catches good for 114-yards and one touchdown.
