Recap

9th Inning

This will be the Red Sox final chance to get back in this game as the Astros are three outs away from taking home a win in Game 1. Joe Musgrove will be the pitcher for the Astros trying to close out this game and he does just that, retiring all three Boston batters in order. The Astros beat the Red Sox, 8-2.

8th Inning

Will Harris takes over on the mound for the Astros. He can't get the last out, so Houston brings on Francisco Liriano to close out the top half of the inning.

The Red Sox bring on Rick Porcello to take over on the mound. He gets the Astros in order, 1-2-3.

7th Inning

Verlander will come off the mound for Houston as Chris Devenski takes over on the hill for the Astros in relief and gets Boston in order 1-2-3. Red Sox need to find some offense somewhere.

Austin Maddox on the mound for the Red Sox now.

Jose Altuve at the plate again for Houston, and good lord .... he hits ANOTHER home run. That is Altuve's 3rd home run of the game. Incredible day for the MVP candidate. He is 9th player all-time to hit three home runs in a postseason game. Astros lead Red Sox, 8-2.

6th Inning

Justin Verlander is still on the mound for Houston and he gets the Red Sox in order, 3 up and 3 down.

Chis Sale is pulled from the game. Joe Kelly will take over for the Red Sox in relief and he leads the bases. Brian McCann at the plate and he singles to drive in two more runs. Houston leads Boston, 7-2.

5th Inning

Verlander allows a hit to Ramirez, but otherwise gets off the bump without issue.

The Astros at the plate again, and Jose Altuve yaks his second home run of the game to add to Houston's lead. Astros lead the Red Sox, 5-2

4th Inning

The Red Sox get runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs to start the inning. Rafael Devers flies out to right field and Mookie Bets tags up to score before the throw can reach home plate. Tie ballgame at 2-2.

Evan Gattis and Josh Reddick get on 1st and 2nd, then Marwin Gonzalez doubles to bring both of them home as the Astros re-take the lead, 4-2.

3rd Inning

The Red Sox got a double from Hanley Ramirez, but couldn't bring him home. Ramirez was pinch-hitting for the injured Eduardo Nunez who had to be carried off the field following a non-contact injury in the 1st inning. The Astros get a man on first but can't capitalize either.

2nd Inning

The Red Sox managed to pull a run back in the second, but it took video reply of Mitch Moreland crossing the plate before a tag out at 3rd base for the final out of the inning to confirm Boston had indeed scored.

1st Inning

Chris Sale has given up back-to-back home runs to Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve as the Astros jump out to the quick 2-0 lead.
