One woman is dead and another injured after a car crashed into them on a sidewalk in Leslie County.

It happened Monday afternoon on Sycamore Street near Primary Care in Hyden.

Officials say Alyssa Noble, 38, crossed the center line on Main Street and went down Sycamore Street hitting a utility pole and the two women who were standing on the sidewalk.

The coroner pronounced Mackenzie P. Hayes, 23, dead at the scene. A helicopter flew Rhonda Belcher, 41, to UK Hospital where she is listed in "fair" condition.

WKYT learned the pair worked at Primary Care and were on a lunch break when the crash happened. According to police, people in the area said the women stopped on the sidewalk to watch the eclipse.

KSP officials worked Monday night to reconstruct the scene of the crash.

It is unclear at this time if the driver, Alyssa Noble, was under the influence at the time. We are told she was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Barry Martin, the CEO of Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky released the following statement: "A tragic accident occurred today involving our Primary Care Centers family. Officials are investigating the accident. We are asking that everyone keep all of those involved in your prayers and be respectful of their privacy.
