One thing I have become enlightened to in this past year is the diversity that exist. One of these areas is in gender, which is different than sex. Did you know that there are at least 31 genders?

Not everybody goes by him or her. Some people go by ze, zim, or xe, xir, for example. It's important to address people by the pronoun they prefer to be addressed as. It makes them comfortable and calls for a more inclusive area.

Below is a full list of some of the genders and how we should address people. Don't feel overwhelmed, but you should probably memorize this list so you are understanding of each and every gender.

If you become more understanding to people of different genders, you also grow more sensitive. If you are unsure of a person's gender, refer to that person in the "them" format. That way you aren't labeling them the wrong way.
