^^ One just naturally expects that those who rise to the highest level of government are good, smart, wise and experienced people. Unfortunately in our time that is not the case. Despite his military exploits it would seem McCain struggles with a mental duality which sort of fluctuates between overwhelming naïveté and an inflated sense of self destiny.
The great leaders our past and recent heritage were often forged in the fires of trial. Not so in present day as the baton has been handed off to people like Paul Ryan, who is likely a product of his civics teacher and spends too much time reading his own press clippings. Or Al Green who came to Congress with a racial chip on his shoulder and good for nothing other than fanning the flames of bigotry, and standing up on TV trying to look like a guy facing off against his foes in an alley fight.
The US used to stand for ideals that led the world. Now we are reduced to the petty, as fully one half of the federal government are consumed with illegally deposing a lawfully elected President. Or with survival concerns reaching critical mass, and instead of dealing with matters like the health care crisis or tax restructure, we see that yesterday the House voted to fund sex change surgeries in the military. And BTW, 24 Republicans joined with the outnumbered Dems who to a man, voted for the measure. I tried to get a list of those guilty but so far I can't find it;

Can you believe this madness? Supposedly during the Obama inception of this deal there were 40,000 (troops?) waiting in the pipeline for a sex change operation.
The people we've sent to the Hill are a disappointment and frankly an embarrassment IMHO. But worse is the fact that they are largely just a reflection of our current social attitudes. The number of people buying into such stupidity is increasing, and those who know better either have retired into private life or soon will, and that includes the media. Thus my reservations and hopes are always tempered by the 'down the drain' analogy.
