Florida running back Adam Lane plans to join the Eastern Kentucky football program, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

The Gators granted the sophomore release from the program Sunday morning, with first-year coach Jim McElwain saying the Winter Haven, Fla., native "has some family issues that he is dealing with and wants to be closer to home."

Lane has texted former teammates since then regarding his plans to join the Colonels at the Richmond, Ken., university, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in the NCAA's FCS Subdivision, where he will be immediately eligible.

The 5-foot-7, 222-pound athlete rushed 16 times for 109 yards and a touchdown Jan. 3 in the Gators' 28-20 defeat of East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl, en route to the game's MVP honors, after managing just 72 yards on eight attempts to that point in his freshman campaign.

Adam Lane, MVP of last year’s Birmingham Bowl, was granted his release from the University of Florida to move closer to home. Lane is from Winter Haven, Florida — a two-hour drive south of Gainesville. Today, news broke that Lane will transfer to Eastern Kentucky — a 12-hour drive north of Winter Haven, Florida. So, either the “closer to home” excuse is B.S. or Lane needs to enroll in Intro To U.S. Geography next semester in Richmond. On a side note: if Lane’s name sounds familiar, you may remember when he shit his pants during that MVP bowl performance last season. He’s in for a rude awakening when he takes a glance at that atlas on his way to his new school.

The bolded section is comical. WHY WOULD SOMEBODY LEAVE (to be closer to home) THEN TRANSFER TO EKU OVER 12 HOURS AWAY???????
According to GoogleMaps....

Gainesville, FL. to Winter Haven, FL. is 130 miles away.
Winter Haven, FL. to Richmond, KY. is 813 miles away.

Because it's sounds like an excuse. Kid probably didn't like the way the depth chart was shaping up under a new coach and was looking for somewhere he could get on the field and do it quickly. That's my best guess though, take it with a grain of salt.

I agree, with NcElwain as the new HC it's probable this guy was not going to be in the offensive plans especially with his size and found a good way out and good for him. Probably another reason Jude may have transferred but what a great pickup for Georgetown!
Does immediately eligible mean that he can play in their first game THIS season?
