When considering what the fundamental transformation of the United States may have meant back when it was first being advocated for by our President, I thought he was referring to the tenets of social justice. And though that prospect seemed unnerving at the time, the possibility of a fundamentally transformed system of justice had not yet occurred to me.
Not only does that eventuality now seem likely, but the aspects of what that might mean past Major League Baseball games being played in empty stadiums are more than unnerving, they are terrifying. There was a rationale put forth back in the early 80's, which held that black offenders were victims or targets, of police brutality, rather than criminals. This is the line of rationale the good Reverend Al Sharpton has been developing and preaching his whole checkered career. (That is if one could characterize what he does as being legal) People dismissed Sharpton's drivel out of hand as the rant of a drug user back then but, today seems to be a new day. Remember, the good reverend is a top advisor to our President who has himself been sounding a little like Al lately in constantly condemning police, instead of the criminals who police are being forced to treat like royalty. At any rate, the liberals have gotten their way and criminals are now being treated as if their only vice is having been victimized by a society that passed them by. And guess what? Things are more out of hand than at any time in our nation's history. The definition of insanity reigns supreme.
Back during the Trayvon Martin affair, there was glimmer of an idea put forth by media, and that idea was supported by comments made from the White House. An idea which was carefully couched in terms that to ferret out, sort of required people to read between the lines a bit. Cleverly alleging that the police department in Sanford, Florida was hiding something maleficent. And in trying to cover up the murder of a black teen by a white man, it was made to seem as though the investigation was nearly non existent. And that because Trayvon was black, nobody at the Sheriff's Office really cared what had actually happened. National sentiment seemed to accept the notion that we citizens could not trust the police report. And, that mistrust has since grown to such an extent that not trusting police has become a virtual foregone conclusion anytime white officers are forced to deal with a black offender. Hence, the volcanic eruptions in Baltimore are not even questioned even though there is a witness, (another prisoner who was in the van no less) who has testified that Gray was trying to hurt himself in the police van. Now folks, the Weather Underground said they didn't need a weatherman to tell them which way the wind was blowing. And likewise, I don't need a doctor to tell me that a guy with a severed spinal cord, and who had to be drug to the police van because his legs weren't working, would be incapable of throwing himself around in that van trying to hurt himself.
The escalation of violence associated with an increasingly militant attitude by black people toward white cops is more than obvious to even the most casual observer. As is the lack of any kind of meaningful response by the authorities. In fact, that Mom who saw her 15 minutes of fame coalesce around the scene which showed her slapping her 16 year old son for his role in the violence of Baltimore, was the most response I have seen to date. It would be past naïve to think police are not being directed to stand down from up the line.
The federal government already controls most of the things that happen in this country, we certainly don't need to hand over control of our state and city law enforcement to boot. And, I would like to go on record in saying that I do trust law enforcement and that further, the police acted correctly in the cases sensationalized by the media. A media who never apologizes for wrongly stirring up insurrection which has resulted in injury, death, and millions of dollars in property damage.
