How many of you have been in a gym when a crowd fight breaks out at a high school basketball game?

:letsfight :baldbull: :glassjoe:
I couldn't tell you how many I've seen over my lifetime!!

There was almost one last night at the HC/Harlan game, AFTER the game was over and the kids had left the court!!!

I still don't know what that was all about!!
Ive probably seen 20-25 fights in my lifetime!!!
Too many to count. But that's over too many years to count!
The Paintsville vs. Prestonsburg game in the early 90's was a brawl......
Mullins and Pikeville had a free for all in the mid 80's. Players, parents, teachers, principles, and students. The whole gym was fighting.
Geez, you guys fight more than WE do!!

Confusednicker:
The Breathitt/Powell game in the 14th region tournament comes to mind. Crazy night!

The funny part about that is that two of the state police who were working the game were related to some of the Breathitt players and ended up having to escort their own family members from the arena.

The officiating had everything to do with that getting out of hand. For people who say referees aren't bought in HS Basketball that game and the Powell/Perry game in that tournament were obviously bought. Powell wasn't within 10 points of either of those teams on a good night.
I really doubt you. To many people involved never happen.

That whole regional tournament for Powell Co. was a little home cooking!!!

Takes two people, how is that too many? All three refs need not be bought, only one who knows what he is doing.

From the times I have heard of it happening the coach or the school is not involved, generally a wealthy parent or something like that who has access to an official.
Referee's can cause a riot faster than anything....

If they calling a game loose, then call a few 'touch' fouls against the team A. But they let team B play rugby without fouls being called. Then team A does the same thing and fouls are called. That causes everybody to get upset at each other..... from the coaches, players and fans.

I have never been to a game where a crowd fight has broke out. And I have been to a lot of basketball games in the 14th, 15th and 16th region.

I've heard some stories from a Johnson Central vs. Lawrence Co. game in the 80's.
Clay County and Jackson County a few years back. Started with the teams shaking hands, and ended with half the stands on the court.

I'll just say that those were interesting games lol

Didn't the brawl end up ejecting a bunch of Breathitt players and Powell came back from 20 pts down in the second half?
I was in both the Pikeville vs Mullins one and the Pikeville vs Harlan City one in I believe 1983. Can't remember the Mullins one year but I think it was 1984. Harlan one was by far the worst one. But the one at Mullins was pretty crazy too. Seem to remember one at Johns Creek maybe too? One at Harlan had people jumping over the railings and landing on top of the people on the bench or in the chairs. One dude even tried to slam me with a chair. Crazy times. Had to pull the bus literally right up against the exit of the gym to load the players on and then we all had to lay down in our seats until we got out of the area.
This is kinda off topic.... but I've only been told the "war stories" from people that was there... but I wanna share it and see if anybody else from around the area know what I'm talking about.

In the 60's before Johnson Central was formed, a couple of my neighbors went to Meade Memorial and played for Wendall Wallen (not the referee). They told me when they would go to Breathitt County, there would be some men come in wearing miner clothes, go in to the locker room area and come back out wearing a Breathitt County basketball uniform. They said that people from Breathitt County would just start fighting in the crowd, somebody would break the fight up and let them stay like nothing happened.
How many games have you seen that two players fight?

I was at a game one time where a player hand checked another player and th player that got hand checked decked the fouling player! I MEAN LAYED HIM OUT!!!!

I seen two cousins playing for opposite teams throw down.... both were girls.
It was at an elementary game.
I would be safe in saying that the REF'S are the culprit every single time. They are just plain bad, no consistency what so ever. The 15th is a blood bath of no calls. The 16th is touch fouls on top or anywhere outside the paint. They also have kids they protect. Our so called superstars of each region. If it is a foul its a foul reguardless of the status of the kid commiting or trying to draw a foul. Plain & simple. Just be consistent, either good or bad.
Well, if we are going to involve family.......

Baby Zak, being the youngest of 4, was very very anxious to get in his first basketball game. This kid, was born with a basketball in his hand!! (I know, he got over it and turned to football, BUT...)

Anyway, everybody showed up for the first game. He was playing with his brother and we were all taking pictures. His mom and dad were coaching and on the bench. So, Zak was point guard and was supposed to bring the ball down, and pass to his brother when the defense came out to him. Well the D didn't cover him, so he let a big 3 pointer go and it ripped the net. Oh, his swagger was immediate. Soooo, next time down one defensive man came out, and his brother prepared to receive the pass. Instead, Zak lets another 3 pointer fly.....ripped the net again.

On his last trip down the floor, 2 kids came out immediately on him and his brother made himself wide open to receive the pass. You guessed it...another three point shot!!

So Zak turns around to "trot" back on defense, feeling pretty good about himself. His brother follows him, and as soon as he caught up with him around mid court, his brother hits him square in the jaw with a right hook. Well, throw down time. They locked up in the middle of the floor fists flying. Their mom got straight off the bench, jerked them up by the shirt tail and marched them straight out the door.

To this day, I'm not sure exactly what happened to them but we didn't see them for a full week!!
I thought Clay and Corbin had a brawl back in the early 80s?

That was an awesome story!!!
:Thumbs::Thumbs::Thumbs:
Another good one was Perry Central vs Wolfe County the last time the 14th Region Tourney was at Breathitt.

Both fan sections crammed into the spot under the goal that is typically reserved for Breathitt's fans... well there wasn't enough room and it didn't end well lol
I always heard that Lynch and Cumberland had a dandy back in the 70's. I seem to remember it being around 73 or 74. Anyone ever get to see that one?
Cawood and Cumberland had one during a football game in 1969; I was dead in the middle of it!

But I was gone by 1973!!
nedreader Wrote:i thought clay and corbin had a brawl back in the early 80s?

this one was so bad that clay and corbin wasn't allowed to play each other for several years. Seems like a couple of players actually went to hospital for treatment to be stitched up. But it was bad........bench clearing, stands emptied.......it was wild. The game was stopped and they weren't allowed to finish.
By far the worse one i ever seen was when i was in high school in early 80's at a basketball summer camp. Oneida was playing a team from tennessee and a player from tn team said something and it was on.......they fought for probalby ten minutes no exaggeration. The oneida kid got the best of one of them and it spilled over to the campus we were on. There were death threats and some pretty bad stuff. It was so bad that oneida had to leave camp for fear that someone would really get hurt bad.
I remember the brawl at Millard between Millard and Sheldon Clark, I believe it was. The whole crowd was on the floor. I was also remember when someone jumped from the stands at Millard and punched Shelby Valley's coach.
