Rockcastle County HS was consolidated in 1972 with 3 town schools: Mount Vernon, Brodhead and Livingston. Mount Vernon HS had a football team from 1957 to 1971.... Since the consolidation in 1972, Rockcastle County HS has established 28 winning seasons, with 24 playoff appearances, 23 straight since 1991. 1990 was the era of Rockcastle recording one of the best winning records over the course of 20 plus years. 2009 marked the 1st losing season for the ROCK since 1985.... 2011, Rockcastle at it's 40th anniversary destroyed their overall record from the previous 2 years (2009-2010) 9-14 going 9-3 including a district championship. As most of you know that Rockcastle County has been once known for their smash mouth defense, rushing offense, dominance at home, and persistence over the years winning 9 district titles, 4 region titles, 10 district runner-ups, 4 region runner-ups, 2 trips to the state championship (2001-2002). This 2014 team came in the season with high hopes over improvement from the last two years winning only 4 games and early exits out of the playoffs. Rockcastle has won 3 consecutive home games going 4-2 last 6 games. I as a former athlete/contributor and coach see this season for the ROCK road on improvement.
