How long did Pt put up a fight? Are they still showing signs of improvement? I think they have been improving. Were there many penalties against the Tornado?

I read one report that PT only had 38 players

Is this true..or was it the product of the long trip and leaving kids at home to save cost?
Their numbers are down this year.
Bring back randy wyatt!!!!!!

Purging the roster may not be a bad thing though. Especially if discipline is an issue.

With that said to compete for the 3A Title the next few years they are going to have to have a ton of depth and very limited # of guys going both ways.
Give Rodgers a chance They are about in the same spot as last year with less talent and it's his first year. It takes a good coach 3-4 years to change a program.

I only counted about 32
Discipline will trim the roster. When the success starts to show the roster will grow. That is why it will take 3-4 yrs.
According to roster on KHSAA website they have 43.

Their never was a major discipline issue.
I think many of the "undisciplined"references under Wyatt referred to the constant string of unnecessary penalties (offsides, false starts, holding)
Tilghman is an inner-city school but the coaching staff never has put up with any BS-
Penalties of the amount and significance they had definitely is a result of no discipline. Of course Randy led by showing the team how easy it is to pick up serious 15 yarders himself. I watch teams throughout this area and the way he managed that one was by far the worse case scenario.
Numbers are overrated.

Tell ya how many kids any 3A program really needs past 40 & that's none (for most).

You find 40 swinging you know whats out of 300-350 boys that are totally bought in, committed, willing to do what it takes in the classroom and on the field, willing to play THIS sport and it's demands? Well...you're batting 1.000.
This is a school filled with athletes. When they buy in to the program they will be fine.
How do their numbers compare to Central and Belfry?

Belfry has around 70
Central usually keeps a roster around 70 as well.

How many teams have this?

Usually we are on the same page. This time I agree with your philosophy but completely disagree with your statement.

Every coach in America strives for, and would love to have, a 35 man roster where each and every player is a well oiled machine, in impeccable physical condition, never get injured, and play with maximum effort. The reality is...especially in Kentucky... you simply aren't going to find that.

Realistically speaking for the injuries that happen over the course of a season a team at a school the size of Paducah Tilghman needs to be around 50 men. This gives you 2-deep flexibility at every OLine spot, every skill spot, specific one way only players on defense, and specialists while still having enough players left over to field a JV squad to develop the additional 3-4 guys you expect to contribute once they become Juniors and Seniors.

There is a reason Belfry and Central have dominated this class under the 6 Class System. The common theme with them is A) They typically have the fewest umber of guys playing both ways B) They always field deep, fast defenses with interchangeable parts C) They thrive on very physical play and typically win the LOS

Now with all this said.. and as I eluded to above... roster purge isn't a bad thing. "Buy in or get out" can have a profound effect. As long as ROgers can recruit his hallways to find guys who want to be a part of it..and as long as he makes sure the talent in Paducah flows equally to Tilghman instead of McCracken... there is no doubt he will build them to a contender.
I hear this argument about needing to not have 2 way players a lot. I agree that it would be nice but, if you run the program correctly and have the boys in shape that's not such a hurdle. We certainly don't have the numbers of a PT on a regular basis. We however, have won 9 in a row. We shouldn't have the numbers of Graves Co but, we have won 6 in a row. McCracken certainly had more playing both ways than did South Haven Friday. However, South Haven had more players go out for cramps and injuries and ended up losing. I think it has more to do with the coaching and fitness. The thing is, PT may have only 43 players but they are usually a very athletic 43. I think once they build the middle school and elementary programs, they will be okay. I remember 2 years ago thinking how many athletes their 8th grade had when we beat them. It was coaching. Those guys are sophomores so I'm sure they will have talent next year.

I am going to venture a guess...may look bad...but here it is

From classes 2A-6A I would say over 90% of your state champs over the past 6-7 years have had less than 5 guys who play iron man football the entire game.
I know the last time PT won, 2009,they had several on both sides. The year Lone oak should have won 4a, 2009, they too had several 2 way players. They had the game by blowout fashion until Coach Haskins decided to kill the clock in the second half and they couldn't play that style of game. That's just 2 that come to mind. I think DeSales last year had several 2 way starters.
Thought PT looked better this year that last. Maybe it was fewer numbers and you had guys that were there for the right reasons or what it was, but it just seemed like a more cohesive team.

Prepare yourself my cannon honoring friend...the birds may lose Friday night at Cecil. Going to be a great battle!
I think they are already turning the ship around.
