Well we have another great week of 1a games here in the commonwealth. We have several games pitting highly ranked teams against one another. We have several games where 1a teams are going above their class to find a quality opponent. We also have some games that will go a long way to shape someone's schedule and help them to build upon their season. So without further ado, here we go:

1) #2 Frankfort 1a @ #6 Franklin Co 5a
This game pits two highly touted teams in their perspective classifications. These two teams are getting to be fairly well known throughout the commonwealth. Both come in undefeated at 2-0. Both have been rolling so far this season. Frankfort's average game score is 38-16. Franklin Co is averaging a score of 45-6 thus far in the season. The two are also fighting for bragging rights throughout the area. The two played last year as well with Franklin Co winning 51-36. Both teams also had similar results for their seasons. Frankfort went 11-3 ending their season in the semi finals. Franklin Co finished 1 game short f that mark with a record of 11-2. This should be another exciting game with the whole state watching for the results of this one.

2) #10 Holy Cross 1a @ #14 Henry Co 3a
This is another game between two teams that are thought highly of within their perspective classifications. The two played last year to a 13-15 game with Henry Co edging out the Cougars. The two come in off similar starts to this season as well. Holy Cross comes in at 2-1 averaging a 40-26 score per game. Henry Co comes in at 3-0 and is averaging a score of 42-15 per game. The two also finished last year with similar records. Holy Cross finished 2013 at 6-6. Henry Co finished the season at 6-5. This should be an exciting game as well, with a large crowd.

3) #1 Mayfield 1a @ #3 Murray 2a
This should be another great game between two of the more tradition rich programs in the state in their perspective classifications. This is a game that has a lot of tradition as they used to play in the same district and will again next year. Murray has spent most of the last decade advancing to the state semi finals. Mayfield has been to the last 5 state championship games. The two played an unusually close game at War Memorial in Mayfield last year with the Cardinals coming from behind to win 28-18. The two come in this year with the same record at 2-1. Mayfield features a flashy offense with more scoring and a stout defense to go with it. Murray features more of the old school style offense with a stout defense to back it up. Mayfield averages a score of 43-20 so far this year. Murray is averaging a score of 27-15. This should be a great game and certainly a standing room only crowd. Get there early for any seats.

4) #7 Hazard 1a @ #10 Somerset 2a
Here we have another great game between to traditionally powerful teams as well. They both have had great success in the past decade and this game is usually a gauge as to how the two will do. At Hazard last year the Bulldogs edged out the Briar Jumpers by a score of 32-28. This year both teams have to be a little disappointed at their starts, for different reasons. Hazard because their long time coach, who has had more success than any before in school history, got tossed in their first game. This caused some dissention that may have led to a loss in a pretty close game in the opener and will keep him off the sidelines this week as well. They come in at 1-1 on the year with an average score of 38-28. The Briar Jumpers for a whole different reason. This being that they are young and have not yet gelled. They therefore come in with a record of 0-3 and averaging a score of 13-46. The two had good seasons last year as well. Hazard finished 2013 at 11-2. Somerset finished at 8-5. Both lost their last game at the hands of the eventual state runners up in their classification. This should be a great game and I don't expect either team will give the other an inch.

5) #3 Williamsburg 1a @ #6 Wayne Co 3a
This should be another great game and one that the whole state will be eyeballing to see the results of. The two had very similar seasons last year, with each ending the year as the state runners up in their perspective classifications. Last year the Cardinals destroyed the Yelowjackets on their own field by a score of 40-12. The Yellowjackets feel like they are the better team this year and should have a real distain for Cardinals, since 2 of their 4 losses last year came to Cardinals. Williamsburg finished 2013 in Bowling Green with a record of 11-4. Wayne Co finished 2013 also in Bowling Green with a record of 14-1. This year seems to be a bit different due to what Wayne Co graduated and what Williamsburg didn't. The burg comes in at 3-0 on the year averaging a score of 42-13 per game. Wayne Co comes in with a record of 1-2 with them averaging a score of 23-21.

6) Shelby Valley 2a @ #9 Paintsville 1a
This looks like another great game in the making. Last year Paintsville edged ut Shelby Valley on Valley's home field. This year Paintsville has run into the injury bug though. Shelby Valley enters this one at 2-0 on the year, averaging 34-6 per game. Paintsville comes in at 1-1 on the year and is averaging a score of 21-31 per game. This looks a little skewed due to the beating they took at the hands of Pikeville last week. Last season Paintsville finished much better than expected at 8-4 on the year. Shelby Valley finished with a losing season, due to this game, at 5-6. Will this be a pay back game, or will Paintsville flex their muscle.

7) #11 Ky Country Day 1a @ Carroll Co 2a
This is another good one here with two teams that are very familiar with each other. Last year Carroll Co bested the Bearcats by a score of 34-21 at KCD. This year the two seem to be on a similar pace to one another. They both come in at 1-2. KCD comes in averaging a score of 22-31 per game. Carroll Co comes in averaging a score of 20-41. They of course appeared very similar last year as well, with KCD finishing at 5-6 and Carroll Co at 6-6. This game will go a long way towards one of these two teams improving upon last seasons results.

8) Lynn Camp 1a @ Harlan 1a
We have two teams in 1a here that desperately need to win. This makes this one even more important than most games in the line up. Last year it was a true nail biter as Lynn Camp edged Harlan at home 29-28. This one win made a difference in how the two ended their year. Lynn Camp finished 2013 with a record of 3-8. Harlan finished at 2-9. This year Lynn Camp comes in at 1-2 with an average game score of 12-40. Harlan comes in at 0-1 with their only loss being a shut out at0-28. This should be a game that both teams have had circled for some time now.

9) #17 Fairview 1a @ Bellevue 1a
This should be another great game for two 1a teams that figure to be in the mix. Last year on the field Bellevue lost this one pretty comfortably. They however won it due to off the field issues for the Eagles. They both finished the season with similar records in 2013. Fairview finished at 5-5. Bellevue finished at 7-5. They both come in to this one also with similar records. Bellevue has a record of 1-2 and the average score of their games is 34-44. Fairview comes in at 1-1 and the average score of theirs has been 40-29. This should go a long way towards building some confidence for the winner.

10) #16 Allen Cent 1a @ Betsy Lane 2a
This one should be a much better game than it was last year. Last year Betsy Lane rolled on the road in this one to a score of 40-0. This year Allen Cent has apparently caught the eye of voters though, that feel they should be ranked. Allen Cent comes into this one at 1-2 averaging a score of 28-30. Betsy Lane comes in at 1-1 averaging a score of 39-33. This would be a great turn around if Allen Cent pulls it off. They finished last year at 2-9. Betsy Lane finished on the opposite side of the spectrum at 9-2. This could be one to watch.
I want to complain about Mayfield playing Murray...Just for the neck of it. Confusednicker: Another Great job 55. Confusedhh:
55 if you keep including may field in top 10 games topnotch will complain and say you are being to bias. It would be hard to keep may field out of the top ten games the first 5 weeks, and the last 2 since the schedule is so good, oh crap I messed up and bragged about the scheduling no Christmas card for me from topnotch now.
Don't worry about it Killbilly. First he doesn't understand scheduling. Second, this is a week day. That means he has to wait for his wife to get off work to type up his response.
Agreed
Keeping my eye on Holy Cross Mysonis55 you have them rank #10 Confusednicker:
Holy Cross does appear to be better this year.

Appear they are rank #2 .....what's up with that.Confusednicker:
It's just the Lit ratings. They aren't that good this early in the season. They are benefitting from playing DeSales.
Desales put a whooping on them.
I know but the strength of schedule helped them as a result of playing that game.
