JACKSON, Miss. -- Rome Cotton rushed for a program-record 189 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Lindsey Wilson College football to a 49-15 win over Belhaven (Miss.) University on Saturday at H.T. Newell Field.

The No. 20-ranked Blue Raiders (6-2) outscored Belhaven 28-0 in the second half as the Lindsey Wilson defense held a team scoreless in a half for the second time this season.

Cotton helped the Blue Raider run game post a season-high 292 yards in the win. In addition to his 189 rushing yards, Cotton caught three passes for 34 yards.

For the game, Lindsey Wilson recorded 548 yards of total offense compared to Belhaven's 316 yards.

Lindsey Wilson built a 21-9 lead thanks to a pair of Cotton rushing touchdowns and a 24-yard touchdown catch by Akio Tonge -- his first touchdown of the season -- from Branden Cresap.

Belhaven (2-6) used the waning seconds of the first half to temporarily steal the momentum from the Blue Raiders.

Blazer quarterback Ian McGuinnis scrambled out of trouble on the half's final play and found Lamiquell Roberts in the end zone for a 25-yard score. McGuinnis finished 17-of-35 for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Lindsey Wilson led 21-15 at the half.

Lindsey Wilson quickly regained the momentum with a 10-play, 89-yard scoring drive on its second drive of the second half. The Blue Raiders took the 28-15 advantage as Cresap found Cotton on a 24-yard touchdown toss. Cresap ended the game 15-for-25 for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

After the Lindsey Wilson defense forced the Blazers into a punt, the Blue Raider offense tricked its way to a 35-15 lead.

Lindsey Wilson wide receiver Chris Dobbins took a handoff from Cresap and turned into quarterback for one play as he hit Matt Powers in stride down the sideline for a 74-yard touchdown.

The Blue Raiders cruised the rest of way.

Fourth quarter scores by Cotton -- on a 41-yard run -- and a three-yard quarterback keeper from reserve Jake Tieken gave the Blue Raiders the 49-15 win.

Corey Lillard and Michael Brooks led a Blue Raider defense that set season-highs in sacks (4) and tackles for a loss (10). Lillard and Brooks each finished with eight tackles while Andrew Wahl and Sam Mapa recorded two sacks apiece.

Darius Wren had a game-high 13 tackles for the Blazers.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 2, as the Blue Raiders travel to Union (Ky.) College in Barbourville, Ky.
