Murray Tigers Preview 2013

The question for the Murray Tigers this year is a little different than it has been in the past. The question in the recent past had always been, can they win the west and get to Bowling Green for a shot at a state title. This year, it is can we beat our district rivals, the other Tigers in blue and gold. The answer could be in the strength of their line and speed at skill positions.

Murray lost both their games to their district rivals last season by 3 points. The first was at Murray and the second on a missed field goal in the 3rd round of the playoffs at home.

This may very well be the team with the best chance of upsetting the Caldwell County Tigers before they win another state championship. The Murray Tigers need to work on some up tempo offense to add to their old school grind it out offense.

Murray has a very quick and productive qb back this year in Dylan Boone. They also have their best RB in Jaleel Lee returning. Murray always manages to have plenty of speedsters and a large line to go with it. This year is no exception. I look for them to give a geat fight this season again within their district.

The Tigers schecule could, as usual, use some work to upgrade them for the playoffs. This has been a traditional weakness for the Tigers and is no exception this season.

They start the season at Bryan Station a 6a team that finished the season at 6-5, with a watered down schedule, in 2012. They then host their cross town rivals in 4a Calloway Co. The Lakers finished 2012 with a 5-6 record. They then host the 5a Graves County Eagles. The Eagles finished the 2012 season with an unusual 9-3 record. They then travel to Mayfield to play the 1a Cardinals. The Cardinals finished 2012 as state champions with a record of 14-1. They then host 6a Marshall County. The Marshall's finished 2012 with an average record of 5-6. They then travel to Ballard Memorial for a district game. The Bombers finished the 2012 season, with an improving 7-4 record. They then travel to Caldwell Co to play their district rivals. The Caldwell Co Tigers finished 2012 as state runners up with a record of 11-4. They then host 4a Madisonville N-H. The Maroons finished 2012 with a 7-5 record. They finish the regular season in the swamp against 1a Fulton Co. The struggling Pilots finished 2012 with a 1-9 record.

This kind of schedule should leave them with plenty of weeks to rest some players and keep them healthy. That can be a good thing, but I personally think they would be better off to drop some teams and add some stronger competition.

Players to watch:

Dylan Boone/qb Boone is a very fast and shifty kik at qb. He has a good
arm and good vision. He uses the old style offense to
his advantage and manages the team well.

Jaleel Lee/rb Lee is a very fast back with great vision and is the focal
point of the team. He is very dangerous if he finds the
smallest of creases.
Wow, no Tigers fans to shed some light on this one.
I see the Murray fans being very quiet this year.
The Murray bunch is a proud bunch though. I figured they would at least have something to say on this site.
