HERALD-LEADER STAFF REPORT

Similar to its basketball and football counterparts, Kentucky softball has started what it hopes will be an annual post-season rivalry with a border state.

The Kentucky All-Star Team, made up of some of the top seniors from around the state, will take on some of Tennessee's best seniors on June 28 at Western Kentucky University.

Kentucky's team members were selected last weekend at the East-West All-Star game and will be coached by Meade County's Mike Harreld, Greenwood's Penny Reece, Franklin County's Tracy Spickard and Lexington Catholic's Bob Griggs.

Several seniors from the 11th Region were selected to play, including Brittany Bidwell of Paul Dunbar, Brittany Carpenter of Franklin County, Lindsey Coon of Woodford County and Sasha Turanksy of Madison Central.

University of Kentucky signee Jennifer Young of North Hardin also will play in the series.
