The Clay County Middle School Raiders won the SEMSC championship last night by defeating South Laurel by a score of 7-1. The 1 run was the only run they gave up the whole tournament. The tournament MVP was 7th grader Todd McDaniel. Members of the all-tournament team from Clay County were Brandon Griffin (7th), Tanner Gilbert (7th), Corey Corum (7th), Tyler Young (7th), and Tyler Sumner (8th). The Raiders finished the season up with a record of 20-2. With two 10-game winning streaks. This was a great year for Clay County Middle School sports in general. The 8th grade girls basketball team was 36-0 while winning the BCI state championship and the KBA state championship. The 7th grade girls basketball team finished undefeated at 20-0. The 7th grade football team was 11-1 while winning their confrence championship. The 8th grade football players finished the season at 13-0, and confrence champions. They were 24-0 in their 2 middle school seasons, and 2 time confrence champs. The 7th grade boys basketball team was 24-2, and the champions of the BCI State Championship. The softball team placed 3rd in their confrence tournament. Not to mention that the cheerleaders placed 1st and 1st and 2nd in their respective divisions at the state competion. They finished 2nd overall. This group of kids could be something big when they make it to high school. The future is bright in Clay County. Just stick with it, work hard, and big things will happen.
