JB still needs to go hasn't had one winning season since he's been there.
I don't believe HHS scored a single earned run.
Baioni is the best thing to happen to Highlands baseball in the last 20 years!
Highlands’ Hector Molina made a game-saving catch for the final out as the Bluebirds edged Newport Central Catholic, 6-5 in the 36th District final on Thursday.
The junior center fielder leapt to snag a deep line drive with the tying run on first base after the Thoroughbreds had scored twice in the inning to pull within a run.
After NewCath had cut the lead to one, Highlands junior right-hander Quentin Murray came in to record the final two outs, earning the save.
Highlands led by one entering the top of the seventh, and the Bluebirds extended the lead to two on a NewCath error. Senior first baseman Mitch Meyer singled home another run to make it 6-3.
Freshman designated hitter Luke Hennigan gave Highlands the early lead with an RBI single, and he grounded in a run in the fourth. Junior right fielder Jake Heck added a run-scoring single in the fourth to give the Bluebirds the lead, 4-3.
Named to the all-tournament team were Pat Wear (Dayton), Zack Poinsett (Bellevue), Bobby Sharp (Newport), Josh Cain (NewCath), Connor Bartels (NewCath), Meyer and Hennigan (Highlands).
The Bluebirds’ Gabe Schultz was named most valuable player.
