Letcher Central's Boys and Girl's Track took home region titles yesterday. 12 individual regional champions were crowned to Letcher CentralCongrats Cougars and Lady Cougars and good luck at state. Question: LCC girls and Leslie Co tied for points overall. What breaks the tie to determine champ? Letcher Central had more individual region championships so would that put them first?
Leslie and Letcher had 5 each in first place, and if you want to go to the second Leslie had 9 and Letcher had 6. Lets just call both of them Region Champs!
Last year the Letcher Central Boys and Girls Track Team had to settle for 2nd place. That have had all year to think about that. This year they have worked extremely hard and without a track field like they do every year. When it was all said and done the LCC Boys destroyed the competition defeating Harlan Co by 34 points behind strong running by Chase Cates. The sophomore won the 800, 1600, and 3200 runs. Other Regional champs for the boys are Keaston Hall won won the 400 meter dash. Willie Smith picked up where Dakota Cornett left off last year as he won the shot put. Relay team won 4x400 and 4x800.
Girls took care of business as well tie up with Leslie Co for 1st but having more individual region trophies overall won the even in my eyes. Nicole Banks ended her regional dominance by winning her 14th individual region title. Lindsey Kincer won the high jump, and 4x200 and 4x400 won the event also.
Didn't see the pole vault. My apologies to Leslie Co. Good luck to both teams, and maybe we will get someone to pole vault next year.
