Donovan Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound sophomore forward from Wabash Valley (Jr.) College in Mt. Carmel, Ill., will transfer to Kentucky Wesleyan College to play basketball, according to Panther head coach Todd Lee.

Johnson, a native of Shelbyville, Ky. (Shelby County HS), led the Warriors in field goal percentage at 53.9 and free throw percentage at 82.7 while finishing fourth in scoring 9.4 points per game during the 2011-12 season.

The All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference and All-Region 24 selection also averaged 5.9 rebounds with 44 assists, 40 steals and 14 blocks in 30 games.

"Donovan is a very good athlete and has the ability to play more than one position," Lee stated. "Two of our spring recruiting goals are to become more athletic at certain positions plus add quickness. Donovan fulfills both areas very well."

Johnson helped WVC to a 25-8 record, the Region 24 title and a eighth place finish at the 2012 NJCAA Championship for head coach Dan Sparks.

He completed his freshman year averaging 8.1 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting a team-best 54.8 percent from the field along with 76.5 percent from the foul line in 27 contests.

At Shelby County High School, Johnson led the Rockets with 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds plus field goal shooting at 50.3 percent and free throw shooting at 72.6 percent as a senior.

The Eighth Region Player of the Year also guided SCHS to a 19-5 record, the 30th District and 8th Region titles and the Sweet Sixteen in 2010.

The two-time all-region selection also finished first in scoring at 16.2 points and 9.1 rebounds during his junior year for head coach Mike Clark.

Lee added, "Donovan's experience playing on championship teams at Shelby County and Wabash Valley brings a tremendous understanding of the basketball expectations in the state of Kentucky and our championship tradition program."

He joins former WVC teammates and current Panther senior-to-be guards Kreig Oxley and Cornbread Walker for the 2012-13 season.
