Top-ranked Covington Catholic (27-3) survived a sixth-inning scare to pull out a 3-0 victory over Newport Central Catholic.
Senior closer Jimmy Tomlin induced a two-out, bases-loaded popout to end a comeback effort by Newport Central Catholic (13-13), which is ranked sixth in The Kentucky Enquirer coachesâ poll. Tomlin pitched 11/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his fifth save of the season.
