Williamstown, a program that hasn’t enjoyed a winning season since 2004-05, has made a big splash with the hiring of their new boys basketball coach.

The Demons announced on Tuesday that former University of Kentucky point guard Roger Harden is their new head basketball coach, following Steve Sigmon who resigned due to health issues.

Harden came to UK out of Valparaiso, Indiana, where he was named a McDonald’s All-American and Mr. Basketball in 1982. Harden played at Kentucky from 1983-86 and set the school’s single season assist record in his final year, before being selected in the fifth round of the NBA draft by the Lakers. In his sophomore campaign he was part of a team that made the Final Four. He was known as a playmaker that set-up players such as Kenny Walker, James Blackmon, Leroy Byrd and Winston Bennett.

Harden has his work cut out for him, as Williamstown finished 9-18 last season. The Demons do have a strong sophomore class that dressed seven players at the varsity level last season though, so the cupboard isn’t bare.

Williamstown is one of the smaller schools in the state with just 235 students.
