COVINGTON CATHOLIC 4, BISHOP BROSSART 3 â Senior right-handers Charlie Mader and Tommy Arnzen managed to hold off Brossart long enough for the Colonels to send Brossart to its sixth straight loss.
Mader carried a shutout into the sixth inning, but senior center fielder Trevor Bezold tripled home one run and third baseman Spencer Hackworth doubled home another to pull the Mustangs to within two, 4-2.
Brossart scored a third run on an error after Arnzen came in with two outs in the inning, but he was able to strand runners on first and third with a ground out to senior second baseman Michael Best.
A pick off allowed Arnzen to work around a leadoff single in the seventh and earn his first save of the season.
Covington Catholic moved ahead with single runs in each of its first three turns at bat, including Grant Schreiverâs third home run of the season leading off the second.
The Colonels came up with what became the winning run when senior first baseman Eric Schneider scored on senior shortstop Seattle Steinâs sacrifice bunt.
