INDEPENDENCE, Ky. - In 2010, Scott High School Alum, Bryan Stephenson was killed outside of a Louisville restaurant. He was having dinner with teammates after participating in a baseball tournament.
In 2011, Stephenson's high school coach, Troy Roberts, held a memorial baseball tournament in Bryan's name, to raise cash for student athletes who were heading to college.
Bryan's dad, Bob Stephenson, has been supportive of the tournament.
"This Baseball tournament, and fundraiser, is just one great way to let Bryan's life continue, and to effect the lives of others through his name," wrote Bob in an email "What a Great Tribute!"
After Bryan graduated from Scott High School in 2001, he attended and played baseball for Eastern Kentucky University until he graduated in 2005. When he was killed in 2010, Bryan was living and working in Toledo, Ohio.
"I would like to pass along our family's heart felt thanks to all the people who have helped us through the most terrible time a parent could ever have," wrote Bob. "After Bryan's death, everyday someone out there has nothing but kind words [to say] about our son."

The event has gone from six teams during its inaugural one day tournament last year to a nine team two day tournament this year. It will be played at Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights, and Scott high schools. All of the net proceeds from entry fees, the gate, and concession stands will benefit the scholarship fund. The one time scholarship will help send a student athlete in financial need to college.

The schools participating are Scott, Barren County, Simon Kenton, Campbell County, Dixie Heights, Bellevue, Grayson County, Villa Madonna, and Cooper.
Attendance is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and children six years of age and younger are free.

"Thanks is just to small a word for how we feel," wrote Bob Stephenson.
The trial in Bryan's death is scheduled for May 22 in Jefferson County Circuit Court.
