Setty, a 2011 Mason County alum and a freshman at Southern Illinois, announced early last week his plan to transfer to a school closer to Maysville due to the medical issues of a family member.

Simple enough, right? After all, these things take time.
However, in a Wednesday report by CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman, it was made apparent the Salukis have no intent of releasing Setty from his scholarship at this time.

If Setty doesn't have at least a 2.6 GPA when he leaves Carbondale, he counts negatively against Southern Illinois' Academic Progress Report (APR), which if it drops low enough could result in NCAA penalties up to and including a postseason ban.

So instead of risking that, the university is simply not allowing Setty a release from his scholarship unless he reaches the required GPA benchmark.

Setty should be able to transfer, especially where there is a medical issue in his family.
Same thing is happening to former UK commit Dominique Ferguson at FIU. He was trying to transfer somewhere closer to Indy now that Thomas is out at FIU, but the school wouldn't let him so he is going to go on and make the jump to the pros or, more likely, overseas.

Believe he can transfer to a Juco without the 2.6.
