The Collins baseball team won its eighth-straight game, beating defending 8th Region champion North Oldham 5-2 Tuesday in Goshen.

The Titans (15-3) tallied one run in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to beat the Mustangs (7-4), who scored two runs in the fifth.

Collins had six hits, but made the most of them.

In the third, David Decker walked with one out, moved to second on Logan Bailey’s single, then scored on Brandon Roberts’s single to left field.

In the fifth, Bailey led off with a double, moved to third on Roberts’s sacrifice, then scored on Austin Perry’s single to center field. After that Zac Wiley reached on an error, then Mason Jeffries doubled to center field to score Perry and Wiley.

The Mustangs tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Collins responded with another run in the sixth. Nate Clifton reached on a one-out error, then scored on Roberts’ two-out double.

Roberts led the Titans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Meanwhile Logan Bailey added two hits and Jeffries went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

“Mason and Brandon had big RBI doubles,” Collins Coach Roy Bailey said. “Austin also added a big hit that scored a run for us. Logan had two hits with a good approach at the plate.”

Junior Buddy Johnson picked up the victory on the mound. He gave up two runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out three in five innings as he improved to 2-0. Junior Dan Sanders pitched the final two frames, walking two and striking out five.

“Buddy pitched well for five innings,” Bailey said. “He has been a very consistent pitcher for us so far this year.”

Collins committed only two errors as it extended its win-streak.

“Our defense made all of the routine plays,” Bailey said. “Our players have really bought into playing fundamental defense, making quality pitches, and having good at-bats. We still have work to do, but I like the progress so far.”

Collins looking rock solid...congrats!
Collins is a very solid team for the most part. They do have few things they need to work on before the districts start and hopefully will get these address. As they have the team that could make a solid run for a chance at state spot.
