Floyd County ranks 112th of the stateâs 120 counties, ahead of Magoffin (114), Pike (116) and Martin (119), but behind Johnson (101) and Knott (107). Of the stateâs bottom 25 counties, 24 are in southeastern Kentucky.
Floyd County ranks 107th in terms of mortality, with an estimated 12,798 years of life lost per 100,000 â more than twice the national average of 5,466. The state average is 8,781.
The county also ranks 113th in terms of morbidity, with 38 percent of the population reportedly in poor or fair health. That compares to a benchmark of 10 percent nationally and 22 percent statewide. On average, Floyd Countians reported 7.9 poor physical health days and 5.9 poor mental health days in the 30 days leading up to when they were surveyed. That compares to national averages of 2.6 and 2.3, respectively, and state averages of 4.7 and 4.3.
