Southern is rebuilding under new coach Thomas Graves. J. R. Belt can pitch, catch and play shortstop, and Sam Rein is a pitcher and shortstop. Luis Rodriquez, who did not play last year, has been a bright spot as a third baseman and pitcher.

Doss (6-21), under third-year coach Danny McCreedy, has an outstanding hitter in Sherson Shermon and solid players in Shaun Wargo, Gene Beeber, Noah Holland and Glen Giles.

Fairdale is led by shortstop-pitcher Boo Crabtree, who also is the starting quarterback and an all-region basketball player. Coach David Hicks hopes to put pressure on defenses with a running game.

Holy Cross has only three seniors and four juniors. Senior pitcher-first baseman Chad Conway (.404, 20 RBIs in a half-season before surgery) leads the returnees, along with shortstop Jake Kaelin (.380, 15 stolen bases), catcher-infielder Clayton Snyder (.318) and Justin McGohon (.300), who can play anywhere.

Iroquois, under new coach Travis Bell, has veterans in pitcher-second baseman Desmond Gibbs, shortstop-pitcher Erin Hollenback and catcher Jeremy Mack.

North Bullitt returns shortstop Clayton Kelly (.364), who missed the last 13 games in 2011 because of a broken jaw. Catcher-infielder Jesse King (.333) and pitchers Cody Stinnett and Mitchell Hutchison also have varsity experience.

Portland Christian returns all nine starters and has Ben Lapsey, Will Adams and Austin Blake in the starting rotation.
