The Gators have four starters back from last season and three seniors, so there’s plenty of room to grow.
“We have a lot of questions on offense, but we think pitching and defense will be our strong suits,” GHS coach Jason Jaggers said. “Hopefully our offense can catch up.”
Juniors Trevor Brewer and Kent Smith should provide some pop in the lineup, Jaggers said, while juniors Stephen Bratcher and Chris Hardin and others will need bigger production this year.
Brewer, Dexter Cline and Austin Tibbs – all junior left-handers – will shoulder most of the pitching load. Junior Tanner Kirby and freshman Ben Cole could be used in relief.
“We’re going to have a lot of guys competing for a lot of spots,” Jaggers said. “We didn’t have depth last year. This year, we’ve got depth and options that we haven’t had. We’re going to give our guys opportunities, and you’ll see some changes in the lineup as the season goes on.”
The Gators, who beat Campbellsville 3-1 on Saturday in their season opener, visit Glasgow at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
