The Gators have four starters back from last season and three seniors, so thereâs plenty of room to grow.
âWe have a lot of questions on offense, but we think pitching and defense will be our strong suits,â GHS coach Jason Jaggers said. âHopefully our offense can catch up.â
Juniors Trevor Brewer and Kent Smith should provide some pop in the lineup, Jaggers said, while juniors Stephen Bratcher and Chris Hardin and others will need bigger production this year.
Brewer, Dexter Cline and Austin Tibbs â all junior left-handers â will shoulder most of the pitching load. Junior Tanner Kirby and freshman Ben Cole could be used in relief.
âWeâre going to have a lot of guys competing for a lot of spots,â Jaggers said. âWe didnât have depth last year. This year, weâve got depth and options that we havenât had. Weâre going to give our guys opportunities, and youâll see some changes in the lineup as the season goes on.â
The Gators, who beat Campbellsville 3-1 on Saturday in their season opener, visit Glasgow at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
