After storming back from an eight-point deficit with two minutes left to force overtime, No. 5 Newport Central Catholic ran out of gas in the extra period, losing 64-60 to No. 3 Holmes Friday night.

The Thoroughbreds (16-7) tied the game on two of Michael Bueter’s 12 points with 17 seconds left, and had the ball with eight seconds left, but could not score.

In overtime, Holmes senior guard Dontel Rice scored four of his 27 points and the Bulldogs (19-6) made eight free throws.
