Final from Beechwood, Holy Cross wins the boys 9th region All A Classic. Move on to play Barbourville in 1st round of All A State Tournament Thursday at 5 p.m.
Good luck to the 9th Region champs
Holy Cross basketball coach Erik Goetz climbed the ladder and cut down the nets in celebration of the Indians’ first Ninth Region Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic championship in 13 years.

“It’s unbelievable; a long time coming,” said Goetz.

The Indians wore down defending champion Newport Central Catholic with a stout end-to-end defensive effort and cruised to a 63-46 victory Saturday at Beechwood. Senior guard Jake Burger answered key NewCath baskets while scoring a game-high 20 points and was named tournament most valuable player.

“This feels great,” Burger said. “We played a great team and we played our hearts out.”

Junior guard Christian McClendon finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Indians, who advanced to Thursday’s All “A” state tournament with a 5 p.m. first-round game against Barbourville at Frankfort Convention Center.
