IMO Alan Williams was the best UP in the Mountains. That kid did it all and did it all great.

I agree about Alan Williams. Lot of good players not listed. The more I look at it the more of a joke I think it is.
Congrats too the players on making this list!
Alan Williams is a heck of a player. He is definitely Southwestern's best player. He should have been a utility player on one of the teams.
Josh Dixon, DB (Belfry), was 2nd all-state yet only garnered honorable mention from WYMT????? Richard Trent, 3A player of the year, and didnt crack 1st, 2nd or 3rd team RB????? Again Im VERY confused about the voting taking place on this ridiculous honor WYMT supposedly bestows on local players.
Lots of Belfry players on the defense I noticed. Belfry had a good overall D this year, but what stood out to me most the one time I saw them was how good their defensive line was. I do not know names very well, but I would put money on it that one or two of the players listed were on that big, quick defensive line.
wildthang3 Wrote:IMO Alan Williams was the best UP in the Mountains. That kid did it all and did it all great.

The Williams is a great player--BUT compare his STATS to the Trent kid from Brethitt and Canady from Knox---he is not at that level. Trent rushed for over 1000 yds and passed for over 2000 yds---Canady Rushed for over 1000 yds Rec. over 800 yds 23 TDs and 5 Ints and 67 tackles--not to mention avg. punts of 48 yds......
I do believe WYMT relied heavily on Statistics to compile this team. And, I for one, do not blame them. It is hard to cover that many players will such a small group and then it is hard to compare via different classifications, schedules, offenses, etc... The use of statistics helps the crew be more objective and make decisions that are more fair than simply being subjective to a small number of athletes the WYMT guys get to see on a given Friday night. Take Shelby Valley running back, Lucas Fields, he was 3rd team over a lot of backs that I would personally take ahead of him, but he did have a fantastic statistical season.

It is great for some players to be selected and live with this honor they can tell their children about. For those not selected, it should not be taken as an insult. WYMT has a tough job to do when making a team like this, and no matter the players they were to select, someone was going to end up complaining.
Offensive Line

Bell Co.
Estill Co.
Shelby Valley
Whitley Co.

hows was Belfry line not 1st on this list?
Does anybody know how they did their selection for offensive lines?

Belfry HAD to have a good offensive line to get to where they are. From seeing that, them and Bell you could argue for the top spot on that. I don't know too much about Estill, SV, and Whitley, but I would doubt that they had the lines that produced at the high level of Bell and Belfry this year. No disrespect to these schools - just that both Bell and Belfry both have produced big, strong lines year after year that have led to their success.

Richard Trent was a QB, not RB.

Typo.....I meant to say QB.
As with all selection processes, they are subjective. I am sure some that deserved to be named were not, and some that maybe didn't deserve the honor, received it.

I am posting the above for the benefit of those players who felt they were shortchanged. ^ Good point.
CONGRADULATIONS TO THE WILLIAMSBURG YELLOWJACKETS
Dalton Sizemore
Skylar Griffith
Jefferson Patrick
Logan Hamblin
all will be back next year:betterthanexpected:
1,282 yards rushing and a State Championship and Zack Blanton of Hazard can't even get honorable mention. Surely he has been over looked and will be added?

Exactly what i was going to say.

If i was the rest of 1A footbal, especially in that region, id watch out.
Congrats to Belfry's Howie Dotson- honorable mention on both defense and wide receiver position. Job well done young man!
If UK would take that group of keds I can guarentee they could not do any worse, and we in the mountains would enjoy it a hell of a lot more.

The best I have ever read you said exattly what I would have liked to have said but, I guess I just can't put it the sequence you did. Thanks Top Notch
Wow. Bell County got no respect this year. I know they didn't make to state semis or anything but they still had some outstanding players.
Somebody please explain how 2 players from Jenkins made this list.
I don't understand how zach blanton got overlooked. This kid surely deserves some recognition.
