SOUTHERN
Coach: Todd Raque (12th year).

Last season: 10-16, lost to Bullitt East 54-43 in 24th District semifinals.

Player to watch: G Randell Pickett (6-0, Jr., 12 ppg., 4 rpg.). Pickett has gotten stronger and now carries 180 pounds on his 6-0 frame. He was a 45 percent shooter last season, “which is good for a sophomore,’’ Raque said. “He has an all-around game and defends well.’’

Other top players: G Alan Almanza (5-11, Sr., 9 ppg., 3 rpg.); G Myron Goodall (5-11, Jr., 7 ppg., 3 apg.); F Aaron Baker (6-1, Sr., 9 ppg., 6 rpg.); F Elliott Presley (6-2, Sr., 6.5 ppg., 5 rpg.); C Patrick Horsey (6-7, Sr., 4 ppg., 4 rpg.); F Davonta Blevins (6-2, Sr., 4 ppg., 4 rpg.).

Outlook: With four starters and 10 players returning from last season, Southern will have its deepest team in years. Its goal is to play in the regional tournament. Guard play is the Trojans’ strength. “We have a chance to be one of the better teams we’d had at Southern,’’ Raque said.
