BUTLER
Coach: Shawn Purlee (fifth year).

Last season: 16-14, lost to Pleasure Ridge Park 60-48 in first round of Sixth Region.

Player to watch: G Jalen Palm (5-10, Sr., 14 ppg., 3apg.). Palm has signed with Monmouth University in New Jersey. A four-year starter, he has a great deal of experience and is crafty with the ball. He should form a productive twosome with Demetrius McReynolds.

Other top players: G Demterius McReynolds (6-2, Jr., 8 ppg., 3.5 apg.); G Rashawn Farrell (5-11, Jr., 6 ppg., 3 apg.); F Brent Woodford (6-2, Sr., 5.5 ppg., 3.5 rpg.); C Tre Hayden (6-5,Sr., 3 ppg., 3.5 rpg.); G Monty Harbin (5-11, Jr.); G Kiante Northington (5-10, Sr.); DeAngelo Hunter (6-6, So.).

Outlook: Purlee returns every player but one from last season, including Palm who led the Bears to the regional title in 2010. “The key for us is the players buying into their roles and playing as a team,’’ Purlee said. McReynolds missed some playing time when he injured his knee last season, but he is healthy now. “He is our best scorer,’’ Purlee said. “He’s a mid-major college prospect.’’
