BALLARD

Coach: Chris Renner (14th year).

Last season: 29-4, lost to Eastern 66-52 in Seventh Region semifinal.

Player to watch: Quentin Snider, a 6-0 sophomore guard, was the Bruins’ second-leading scorer (12.7 ppg) as a freshman and has committed to the University of Louisville. He can score off the dribble and is dangerous from three-point range, nailing 39.4 percent last season.

Other top players: G Lavonne Holland (5-11, Jr., 9.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg); F Cam Lewis (6-2, Jr., 8.6 ppg, 5 rpg); F Kelan Martin (6-5, So., 7.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg); F David Martin (6-5, Sr., 1.7 ppg, 1.2 rpg); C Aaron Murray (6-8, Sr.); G Ronnie Baker (6-0, Sr.); G Dontez Byrd (5-9, Jr.); G Timmy Haick (6-1, Jr.).

Outlook: Ranked No. 2 in the state in the preseason, Ballard has the talent and depth to contend for the state title. All-State pick DeVante Parker has graduated, but there’s plenty of talent left. Snider, Holland, Lewis and Kelan Martin form the core of the team, with David Martin and Murray battling for the other starting spot. Murray originally is from Pennsylvania and transferred to Ballard after spending past three years as a missionary in Zambia. As usual, the Bruins will play an up-tempo style and hope to create easy baskets off turnovers. With the Martins and Murray, Ballard should have a stronger inside game than in past years.
