Final!!
Unbelievable game...4:15 left in the game, EKU down 48-24 and no timeouts left and we come back to win 52-48. Our defense stopped JSU on the final 2 plays of the game on the 2 yard line.
Sounds like one Hell of a game! How is EKU doing in the OVC standings? Last I heard they were near the top.
With that win they are in first place.
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team trailed by 24 points with 7:25 remaining, but rallied to earn an improbable 52-48 win over No. 18 Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon at Burgess-Snow Field. The game came to an end with JSU getting turned back at the EKU one-yard line.

The game featured 1,140 yards of offense, 16 scoring plays, six lead changes and two ties. Junior wide receiver Tyrone Goard caught the game-winning touchdown, a 37-yard reception from junior quarterback T.J. Pryor, with 1:24 remaining.

Jacksonville State had one final possession and reached 1st-and-goal at the EKU three-yard line with 17 seconds remaining. However, the Colonels stuffed two running plays to escape with the victory.

The Eastern Kentucky (6-3, 5-1 OVC) win combined with Tennessee Tech’s loss puts the Colonels alone atop of the OVC standings with two weeks left in the regular season.

The Gamecocks (6-3, 4-2) managed to build a seemingly comfortable 48-24 lead thanks to numerous Colonel mistakes in the third quarter. The Colonels led at the break, 24-17, only to see JSU turn three Eastern turnovers into 21 points. After Eastern Kentucky turned the ball over on downs at Jacksonville State’s 14-yard line, the Gamecocks’ Washaun Ealey burst through the defense for an 83-yard touchdown run. That play was Jacksonville State’s final scoring play of the day.

Eastern Kentucky got the comeback rolling just 43 seconds later. Facing 3rd-and-6, Pryor found junior Cameron Bailey over the middle for a 60-yard touchdown pass. The Colonels followed with an on-sides kick, but Jacksonville State recovered the ball.

The Gamecocks then moved the ball to the EKU 24-yard line. Instead of attempting a field goal, JSU went for the first down on 4th-and-6. Jacksonville State fumbled the ball on an option play and sophomore defensive lineman Anthony Brown returned the football 71 yards for another Eastern touchdown.

Now trailing by 10 with 5:23 remaining, 48-38, Eastern Kentucky attempted a second on-sides kick. This time, sophomore Christian Albertson fell on the ball which kept the possession in EKU’s favor. Four timely plays later, Pryor connected with sophomore Justin Williams for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make the score 48-45 with 4:14 on the clock.

From there, Jacksonville State had a chance to run out the clock only to see EKU hold the Gamecocks to a three-and-out. The Gamecocks were forced to punt the ball back to the Colonels with less than two minutes left.

Eastern Kentucky started its final drive at the Jacksonville State 37-yard line and took little time to punctuate the rally. On 2nd-and-10, Pryor lofted the ball to the right corner of the end zone where Goard leapt above the defense to haul in the 37-yard touchdown pass.

Pryor set a program single-game record with five touchdown passes. He finished 16-of-26 for 282 yards and moved into second place on the all-time EKU passing list. Pryor now has 5,055 yards passing in three years as the Colonel quarterback. Goard posted five catches for 123 yards and three scores while Bailey tallied 106 receiving yards.

Jacksonville State’s Ealey totaled 217 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Gamecock quarterback Coty Blanchard threw for 300 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to Alan Bonner early in the fourth quarter.

Eastern Kentucky now returns home to face second place Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Nov. 12. The game, which is part of EKU Athletics Hall of Fame weekend, is set to begin at 1 p.m.

NOTES:
--Junior running back Matt Denham reached 1,000 yards rushing on the season in the second quarter. He is the first Colonel to reach 1,000 yards rushing in a single season since 2007 (Bobby Washington – 1,025). Denham posted 200 yards rushing for the fourth time in the last five games and has 1,106 rushing yards in 2011.

--Senior defensive back Jeremy Caldwell recorded his 15th career interception late in the second quarter in the EKU end zone. The Eastern Kentucky defense has forced a turnover in 10 consecutive games dating back to last season.

--Eastern Kentucky had a second quarter 67-yard touchdown passing play from T.J. Pryor to Tyrone Goard called back due to a holding penalty.

--Wide receivers Justin Williams (18 yards) and Cameron Bailey (60 yards) each tallied their first touchdown catches as a Colonel.

--The 52 points scored by Eastern were the most against an OVC team in four years under head coach Dean Hood.

Both home games

Tennessee Tech
UT Martin
So a win vs Tennessee Tech would clinch OVC title?

Not necessarily. If EKU wins Saturday and UT Martin wins Saturday against Tenn St, the winner of the EKU- UT Martin game next week will win the OVC.
I hope they win it. That would send them to the playoffs.
